UNSW Changes to Bachelor of Laws entry Requirements

UNSW Changes to Bachelor of Laws entry Requirements

2025 will be the last year that the UNSW offer the Law Admission Test (LAT) for entry into the law programs. See detailed information and frequently asked questioned direct from UNSW.

Key details

2025 will be the last year we offer the LAT for entry into our Bachelor of Laws programs.*  While the LAT will be offered in 2025, the following conditions now apply:

  • Only students seeking entry in 2026 should sit the LAT in 2025
  • If you sit the LAT in 2025, your results will no longer be valid for two years
  • Year 11 students who sat the LAT in 2024, your results remain valid this year and can be used for entry in 2026
  • LAT will not be included in the entry requirements for students seeking entry in 2027 and beyond

The phase-out of the LAT will be completed by 2026. No LAT will be held in 2026 and LAT results will not be referenced in the admission criteria for the Double Law program from this point forward.

Frequently asked questions

Why are we changing our Bachelor of Laws entry requirements?

The LAT was introduced to expand access to our Law double degrees. With admission pathways for underrepresented students now in place, the LAT’s importance is changing. We also recognise that the LAT adds pressure to students just before the HSC exams, and it can disadvantage students who either weren’t aware of it or didn’t register in time.

How will this affect my students?

We’re taking a phased approach to the LAT closure. We’re continuing with the LAT in 2025 to avoid an abrupt change to the cohort of students seeking admission in 2026.

We understand that prospective students have placed significant importance on UNSW’s use of the LAT, and many students in Year 11 in 2024 have already sat the LAT in anticipation of 2026 admission.

What are the key dates for students wishing to sit the LAT this year?

Registrations open: Monday 12 May 2025

Registrations close: Monday11 August 2025

Late registrations close: Monday 8 September 2025

LAT test date: Tuesday 30 September 2025

Results released: Friday 21 November 2025
