“Today at the Eisteddfod, it was my first time giving a speech. All the kids were really amazing and when I listened to everyone speak, I got scared and worried I wouldn’t be as good as them. Waiting in line for my turn was so nerve racking and when they called me up, I could suddenly feel my blood flow super fast and my heart thumping in my chest.

Standing on stage was scary. I just kept repeating the same words my mum told me, ” just focus on your own speech and give it your all,” and with that, I went up, and did my best. Upon reaching the end of my speech, I saw a horrified expression on the Adjudicator’s face when I said, “And always, ALWAYS make sure there’s water in the pool before jumping in!”. That was so funny as I must have scared her!

So when they called out the placements in the end, my body was so tense! Names were called out one by one and when I realized I was the last one sitting down I knew at that moment, I had come first and I did! I couldn’t believe it! I stood up there holding the trophy in my hands and I couldn’t help but smile. After all, I guess I did a good job”
Elizabeth Feng (Year 3)

“I’ve had such an amazing experience of both practising my piece with Ms. De Marco (Matilda) and competing in the Memorised Prose Category at the Inner West Eisteddfod. If you get nervous, try warming up your voice early to calm your nerves. I thank Ms. Dee for teaching me this technique and being my teacher since I was in Kindergarten.“
Catherine Coorey (Cathy) (Year 6)

“The Inner West Eisteddfod allows me to express my interest in speech and drama, and I am so grateful to my drama teacher, Ms Lisa, for helping me to figure out some amazing actions to go with the poem that I successfully performed.”
Daisy Han (Year 6)

“I started out by finding the right text for myself. I found one immediately. I felt like I knew how to act this character. Brave and bold, curious and caring. Then it was onto the practicing part. I practised my monologue every week and got better and better.  However, I couldn’t have done it without support from my parents and Ms Fort. They were a big help in the process of preparing for my performance.”
Marina Chen (Year 4)

“Participating in the Inner West Eisteddfod since the age of 7 has been a rewarding experience for me. Performing in front of an audience and receiving feedback from the adjudicators can be daunting but it has helped me build more confidence year after year. With the guidance of my amazing drama teachers, I have learnt to manage my nerves and do my best always on stage. For anyone looking to challenge themselves and try something new, I would strongly recommend taking part in the Eisteddfod!”
– Abira Sanan (Year 7)

Wishing our 11-12 years 13-14 years sections the very best of luck for this weekend!
