Looking for Alibrandi – Year 9 Drama Excursion
Last week our new students who have chosen elective Drama for 2023 went on a theatre excursion to Belvoir Street Theatre to see the adaptation of the classic novel, Looking for Alibrandi. This was the first real theatre experience on a live excursion for our girls, as theatre closed during the pandemic affecting all the professions who make theatre come to life on stage.
The play tells the story of three generations of women in a family in Sydney. It focuses on the Italian-Australian migrant experience but any family who has migrated could relate to the story. Our girls loved the experience with one saying, ‘Because the main character was 17, the play was interesting’. Another said, ‘I’m not Italian but I talked about the play with my parents who migrated to Australia with my grandmother’. We hope this is one of many great ‘live’ theatre experiences in the future.
