Junior School Taiko: Starting the Year in Rhythm
Our Junior School Taiko classes have had an energetic start to the year with Taiko drumming quickly becoming a highlight on Tuesday afternoons. For many students, Taiko is a new experience. Taiko is a traditional form of Japanese ensemble drumming known for its powerful rhythms, strong sense of timing, and emphasis on group performance. Students are learning not only how to play, but how to listen and keep in time with others. More excitingly, it has also been a great way to bring students together. Playing side by side encourages teamwork, and it has been lovely to see friendships forming within classes and across year levels. Over the course of this term their confidence has grown and so has their sound!
Taiko in the Community
A special concert taking place during the Term 1 school holidays is CATHARSIS performed by our Taikoz teachers, held on 17–18 April at the NIDA Playhouse in Kensington. It is a great opportunity for students to see where Taiko can take them, making it a meaningful way to connect what they are learning at school with performance beyond the classroom.
