From the Principal

Farewell Year 12

This week has been a whirlwind of Year 12 farewells and celebrations as the Class of 2022 graduated from MLC School. I would like to thank every student for her contribution to the school during their time with us.

Our day of celebration started with the unveiling of the pavers for the graduating class, followed shortly after by a magnificent Valedictory Service and Assembly which saw Potts Hall overflowing with guests. Last night, students, staff and families danced the night away at the Valedictory Dinner.

Thank you to everyone who attended the events, it has been a fabulous week. All the best to the members of our graduating class as they prepare for their final exams.

Appointment of Deputy Principal and the Head of Senior School

Following a national search which attracted a very strong field of applicants for both roles, it gives me great pleasure to introduce our new Deputy Principal and our new Head of Senior School, both of whom will take up their appointments at the start of Term 1 2023.

Melissa Boyd – Deputy Principal

Melissa is currently a member of the Executive Team and Head of Secondary-Wellbeing at Pymble Ladies’ College where she leads the strategic direction of the Secondary School of over 1500 students. Her responsibilities include student academic care, wellbeing programs, student leadership and house structure. She has held several previous leadership positions including Head and Deputy Head of Upper School, Head of Department PDHPE Years 3-12, as well as seven years of experience as a Year Coordinator in Independent, Catholic and Government Schools. Melissa was an excellence awardee and finalist in the 2022 Educator awards for the best School Wellbeing Program in Australia.

Joanna Graffen – Head of Senior School

Joanna is currently Director of Day School at St Catherine’s School Waverley, where she has oversight of approximately 750 girls from Year 7 to Year 12. She studied law out of school and became a solicitor before moving overseas, where she studied education before teaching at the Australian International School in Hong Kong. Following this international experience, Joanna moved back to Australia and took up a teaching role at St Catherine’s School. After being appointed as a teacher at St Catherine’s, Joanna was promoted to Year 12 Coordinator and then to her current role as Director of Day School. Joanna continues to teach Legal Studies for which she is an HSC marker and has also taught History, Business Studies, Geography and Commerce.

Thank you for your support again this term.
