From the Head of Senior School
As the week draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the whirlwind of activity that has unfolded across our school community. It has been a remarkable showcase of talent, dedication, and teamwork, with events ranging from the creative to the competitive!
The week began on a high note—quite literally—with a stellar performance at the iconic Sydney Opera House. Our students dazzled the audience with their artistic flair, demonstrating the dedication and countless hours of practice that went into crafting such a memorable production. The mass choir pieces were a highlight for me!
Meanwhile, our Year 11 students and their families engaged in Parent-Teacher interviews that underscored the importance of communication and collaboration in the educational journey. These conversations foster meaningful connections between teachers and families, setting the stage for continued growth and academic achievement as students prepare for the challenges ahead. It was great to see the Senior Centre buzzing with learning conversations.
This week, our students excelled in various academic competitions such as Da Vinci Decathlon, the Dame Enid Oratory Competition, Debating and Mock Trial and that is all before we delve into the excitement of sports! Our athletes are gearing up for this weekend’s fixtures, and we are crossing our fingers that the rain holds off.
Staffing news
Our Head of English, Tim Curry has announced that he will be leaving us at the end of the Term to return to his former school, Monte Sant’ Angelo. Tim has made the decision to step back from middle leadership for personal reasons and to focus on further study and professional growth.
During his time at MLC School, Tim has been an effective and committed leader—both within the English Department and more broadly across curriculum, teaching and learning initiatives.
I am pleased to announce that Deb Moir will step in to lead the faculty as Acting Head of English. Deb has many years of experience as the Assistant Head of English and she also led the faculty as Acting Head of English in 2022. We will shortly begin the recruitment process for a permanent Head of English to join us in 2026.
In Term 3, Tim’s Year 11 and 12 classes will be taught by existing experienced senior HSC and IB English teachers in Deb Moir, David O’Donohue and Bridget Kovats. In order to support them to take on these Senior classes, there will be some minor movement with their Junior classes. We will be in contact with parents and students around these movements before the end of Term. As always, we prioritise and balance our students learning with staff wellbeing when considering staffing solutions.
