From the Head of Junior School

This week has been full of adventures with much to celebrate across the Junior School. Today MLC Junior School hosted teachers from other Sydney based ‘Round Square’ schools. Our visitors were extremely impressed with our beautiful campus. Throughout the day, MLC School shared our success implementing Round Square’s new Heroes of Discovery and we also discussed future collaboration between the schools. I look forward to sharing with you more about our engagement with Round Square in the future.

New Parent Portal – Omnia

One thing our parents are celebrating is our new parent portal called Omnia. Through Omnia, you are able to:

  • approve excursions
  • RSVP for events
  • see your daughter’s timetable
  • see upcoming co-curricular activities and excursions
  • find contact details that relate to your daughter
  • receive news and notices
  • see student reports
  • see a school calendar

All our communication will be located in Omnia. You will generally receive an app notification of a new message without the need to be emailed. If you have not signed into Omnia yet, please do so via this link.

Year 4 Adventure Camp

Our Year 4 girls had a very successful adventure camp at Tallong in the Southern Highlands. The staff were full of praise for our girls who undertook a ‘challenge by choice’ on their bush camp.

RoboCup Success

This has been an extremely successful week for our Junior RoboCup teams. Our two primary teams that partook in the interschool ‘OnStage Primary Division’ took out second and third place (out of a total of 48 teams!) We are very proud of all our RoboCup students. We are also very proud of our STEM Teachers  Marie Cassar and Bede Schofield. Click here to read the full story.

IGSA Athletics Carnival

We had a number of girls representing MLC School at the IGSA Athletics Carnival at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. Congratulations to each girl for being selected and please read our Sports news for more details.

Booralee’s Jeans for Genes Day

Following Booralee’s Sunday Chapel service, they hosted Jeans for Genes Day across the Junior School campus on Thursday. Demin was to be seen everywhere (and our teachers took full advantage of the change to their dress code!) During the assembly we listened to a guest speaker learning about the significance of research into genes. We also had demonstrations of the girls’ yoyo skills (as we sold yoyos as part of our fundraiser). Year 3 student, Gem McGuire, is one of this year’s children on the Jeans for Genes Day poster.  It was wonderful for Booralee to support such a good cause. Thank you for your support.

Father’s Day Breakfast, Paper Plane Challenge, Father’s Day Stall and Raffle

It was wonderful to see so many dads (and others) with daughters at our annual Father’s Day breakfast.

For the first time, we hosted a fun paper plane challenge. Family gathered in their Houses to compete in flying their family paper plane. (It should be noted that the dads took this competition very seriously!) Congratulations to the winning House Leawarra. Father’s Day photos will be published on Facebook next week.

My thanks also to our parents who have organised a very successful Father’s Day stall and raffle. Our P&F, parent ambassadors and volunteers do a fantastic job. Thank you!
