From the Deputy Head of Senior School – Pastoral
It has been a busy time at MLC School and has been refreshing to see so many of our students thriving and showcasing their talents in a range of school activities across sport, music and the arts.
On Friday 2 June 2023, nine student from Year 9 participated in yLead’s Altitude Day. Altitude Day is an experience designed to empower Year 9 students during this important stage in their school journey. Students engaged in energising group activities and inspirational presentations to support them in becoming active and inspiring role models and leaders of our school. Students identified their current capacities and future opportunities and explored areas such as positive decision making, overcoming adversity and developing confidence to make positive change. Students were able to network and step outside their comfort zones to further explore the meaning of leadership and reflect on the type of leader they would like to be.
Friday 8 June 2023, saw students in Year 7 to Year 12 participate in a range of workshops and presentations from Elephant Ed. Consent and positive relationships were the key topics. Students explored a range of issues related to promoting safe, fulfilling and enjoyable relationships in person and online, and developing the skills and attitudes to make responsible and safe choices that promote and protect their own health and safety and the wellbeing of others.
MLC School students have also attended Burwood Council’s Youth Advisory Board, and others participated in leading wellbeing workshops at Knox Grammar School. To further complement our programs and support our students, on Wednesday 19 July 2023 we will welcome leading drug and alcohol expert Paul Dillon from DARTA to present to students in Year 10 to Year 12 on the crucial topics of safety and risk.
