Friday 18 November 2022 is White Ribbon Day

The annual White Ribbon Day is a day to raise awareness about men’s violence against women and girls. As part of the global movement, this event highlights the importance of learning what domestic violence is, understanding its impacts within our community and seeking opportunities where we can each help others.

Throughout next week, White Ribbon badges will be sold for $2 each morning (cash only). The funds raised will go towards White Ribbon Australia, which is a charity that engages men and boys to end violence against women in order to promote gender equality and create new opportunities for men to build positive, healthy, and respectful relationships. Furthermore, during Thursday’s Luminary sessions, discussions will take place around the intentions of White Ribbon Day, its purpose and how girls can actively engage in the issue.

In addition, on Friday morning, we will be holding a discussion panel in the open area of the first floor of the Senior Centre from 7.30am to 8am. With both MLC School and Newington student speakers, we will host a forum with the aim of raising awareness around issues surrounding domestic violence. We will be focusing on normalising these conversations, eradicating stigmas around the topic, and informing students on different support avenues and how they can be of help to others.

We hope to see you all there – bring a friend and remember to buy a badge throughout the week!
