End of Term Debating Update
The end of Term 3 marks the conclusion of official competition debating for 2022. Many of our debaters have spent three terms training hard and competing every week in debates. MLC School came top overall in the Friday Evening Debating (FED) competition, third overall in the Independent Schools Debating Association (ISDA) and first in the Archdale competition. We have six trophies to show for our efforts and it has been MLC School’s most successful year for quite a while.
Next term we will be running a friendly interschool debating competition in the British Parliamentary style of debating. Students can register to join in teams of two and the tournament will run every Wednesday afternoon starting Term 4, Week 2 (week commencing Monday 17 October 2022). Any student is welcome to join in this activity, and should email me if they would like more information about the tournament and the cost.
The BP tournament is also an opportunity for debaters to maintain their skills in preparation for our debating trials for the 2023 Year 8 to Year 12 teams. We are also busy preparing for the igsa Festival of Speech which will run live at Pymble Ladies College from 21–22 October 2022. This final official activity for the year will include a full program of events including debating, drama, poetry, and public speaking.
