Careers Update

This is a bumper article for you to consolidate all the information we have been delivering throughout the year.

We have discussed Early Entry Schemes with Year 12 students and are very happy to announce that many of our students have already received one or more early offers with many anticipating an offer in the next round. While most have now closed there are still some open:

Early bird applications closing Friday 30 September 2022

While many students have already applied through Early Admission Schemes, the Main Round or Early bird applications round closes at midnight on Friday 30 September 2022, after which UAC’s processing charge increases.

You can submit an application to any course and change your preferences as many times as you like, for free. Year 12 applicants can also ‘commit to pay’ using BPAY. Payment must be made, however, in order to have their application assessed and receive an offer.

Preferences by way of clarification, you can have up to five preferences however you will only receive one offer, which is the first preference which you are eligible for. Therefore, you must ensure that the courses are listed in order of what you most want, remembering that adjustment factors can influence your eligibility.

Educational Access Scheme

The Educational Access Scheme is for students whose studies were negatively affected as a result of circumstances beyond their control or choosing.

It is applied for via the student’s online UAC application. Students are to upload their applications and supporting documentation to their online account.

Whilst the application isn’t due to UAC until Tuesday 22 November 2022, we will require a copy of the application by Monday 31 October 2022 to allow time for the School to support the application and complete the Educational Impact Statement. We send this statement directly to UAC.

If you have any questions about EAS, please contact Jo Cilia, Head of Careers and Academic Advising.

Schools Recommendation Scheme closing Monday 19 September 2022

Student applications for SRS close at midnight on Monday 19 September 2022. School ratings close at midnight on Tuesday 4 October 2022 and the first SRS offers will be released on Friday 11 November 2022.

If you are going to apply through this scheme please do so asap so that we can do the school rating.

UAC PINs

If students are having problems logging in to their UAC application, the quickest and easiest way for them to get help is to call UAC Customer Service on (02) 9752 0200, 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. They don’t reply to email or social requests for login details as they need to identify the sender before giving out this information.

How to transfer to a different degree

Work Experience

Although we don’t do a Work Experience block during term time any longer, students from Year 10 to Year 12 are encouraged to take up the opportunity. The Careers Department has the necessary documentation and insurance to cover every student.

Work Experience at the Reserve Bank of Australia

The Reserve Bank’s Head Office in Sydney offers work experience for Year 10 high school students. A new program has been developed and is designed to give students insight into the work of economists.

During the one-week program, students will learn about the roles and functions of the nation’s central bank and how to interpret economic graphs, as well as shadowing one of the Bank’s economists as they complete a series of core activities.

The program will run from 7–11 November 2022, and is open to students in Year 10 who are interested in studying economics in Year 11 and Year 12.

The Bank is committed to equal opportunity and places will be offered to students from different backgrounds and school types.

Applications close Sunday 25 September 2022.
