A Busy Term in the Junior School Library
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Congratulations to the 259 students who completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge this year. Your certificates will arrive at the school in Term 4.
Kid’s Own Australian Literature Awards (KOALA)
Students in all grades voted on the KOALA awards this year with student votes sent off to the KOALA Organisers. Our favourite book in each category is as below;
- Picture Book: Miss Kraken by Nicki Greenberg
- Younger Readers: Hot Dog 5 by Anh Do
- Older Readers: 143 Story Treehouse by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton
- Year 7 to Year 9: We are Wolves by Katrina Nannestad
Visit by Kate and Jol Temple
These two authors are still the focus of much discussion in library lessons and their books are hot property in the Junior School Library. For those interested in Kate Temple’s new book and would like to attend the book launch on Saturday 8 October 2022 at GleeBooks, please refer to this flyer.

Winning Book Mark Entry
While the winning entry was announced last week, an image of the winning entry by Valentina Palazzolo (Year 4) has been included below.
HOLIDAY CHALLENGE: Get Caught Reading
In an effort to continue promoting reading throughout the holidays I would encourage students to get caught reading. Take a photo of you reading this holiday and send to Mrs Gilroy at jgilroy@mlcsyd.nsw.edu.au. All students who enter go into the draw for a book prize.
Thank you!
To all those parents who promoted reading this term, thank you. Whether you read with your daughter or discussed her reading with her. Perhaps you added your daughter’s PRC books online, or came in and helped distribute Book Club. To those who gave generously in support of the Book Fair and to those who gave their time to assist with both the Book Fair and Book Swap, THANK YOU.
Your support of reading and the initiatives promoted through library help encourage our girls to read, which we all know is key to making us smarter, happier and healthier. If you need any convincing of that, research can be found here. We are so lucky to have your support.
Happy reading this holiday.
