Private Music Tuition – Rotating timetable

Private Music Tuition – Rotating timetable

The vibrant and high quality music program at MLC School, showcased through outstanding performances and a wide range of ensembles, is driven by dedicated peripatetic music tutors, who provide expert tuition that nurtures talent and fosters a passion for music.

MLC School engages some of Sydney’s finest musicians as private music tutors. The tutors tailor lessons for each individual and are dedicated to the goals of the student as well as our department. Having your daughter learn an instrument or voice with an MLC School music tutor gives you peace of mind about the quality of guidance they are receiving, and is a decided advantage when approaching senior curriculum music as they are in regular consultation with the classroom teacher.

The School supports a process where students are able to come out of class on a rotational basis for lessons. This allows the convenience of having music lessons during the school day while minimising the impact on curriculum lessons. In the senior school, there is a week A and week B rotating timetable as well as the tutor rotating lessons to minimise impact.

We do have some exceptions to rotation. Parents may request a fixed lesson time when their daughter reaches Year 11 and Year 12; if they are undertaking two lessons at school (one may be a fixed), or in cases of special needs.

Recently, several tutors have reported pressure from families to fix lessons outside the above mentioned circumstances. I am sure you understand, we must maintain a process that is fair for everyone. Please refrain from asking tutors to accommodate your daughter at a fixed time. It is uncomfortable for them to be placed in the position of having to deny the request.

I am always here to help if you feel there is special circumstances surrounding this issue. The easiest way to contact me is via email at tmee@mlcsyd.nsw.edu.au. If you provide your phone number, I will find an agreeable time to talk through your situation.
