Year 8
I want to extend my congratulations to all of you for completing an amazing term filled with a range of new, exciting activities. Year 8 actively participated in Illuminate, the Opera House Concert, the MLC School Colour Run, Round Square initiatives, the launch of our Immersion program, various sporting events, the Strong Together service initiative, as well as co-curricular experiences and House activities (amongst others). Your enthusiasm and dedication have made this term very special, well done! As you step into the upcoming break from school, I hope you enjoy some rest, joy, giggles, warmth, and time to recharge for all the wonderful experiences that await us in Term 3.
This week we bid farewell to Tim Curry, Head of Department – English, who has been with the Year 8 Sutton Luminary since day one of Year 7. I want to take the opportunity to thank Tim for his support of the group and for his enthusiasm for all things Sutton! We also share a very big thank you to Jade Thorsen, Teacher – Technological and Applied Studies (TAS), who this term supported the Whitley Luminary whilst Nicole Guymer was on leave.
Core and Elective Subjects (Year 9 2026 and Year 10 2027):
During Academic Care on Wednesday, Elisa Scala, Deputy Head of Senior School – Academic, presented to the cohort to officially outline the process for selecting their Elective Subjects for Year 9, 2026. This is a process which I know students very much look forward to and so conversations about this process may begin from home over the coming break. This week families would also have received information regarding the online Year 8 2025 Elective Subject Selection Information Evening scheduled for Wednesday 23 July at 6pm. This is an important session for all Year 8 students, parents, and carers, to learn more about the next two years of their experiences in the Senior School. Attendance of the webinar is compulsory for Year 8 students and parents.
