2024 Annual Report

From the Principal

Today marks the end of another successful term at MLC School. We began the term with the iconic Opera House concert, Fate, Fortune, Fantasy. Students have excelled in various fields including Sport, da Vinci Decathlon, Academic competitions, Music, Dance, Drama, and Debating. They have also made significant contributions to the community through IB CAS projects, meal preparations at the Exodus Foundation Loaves and Fishes restaurant and supporting a wide range charities. Today’s MLC School Colour Run fundraising for Sony Foundation Camp has united the School, demonstrating our commitment to helping others.

There has also been an enormous amount done behind the scenes with our Masterplan update progressing well; our AI and data strategies being reviewed and implemented; great progress on our Academic improvement initiatives; and ongoing investment and upgrades to our grounds and facilities.

Illuminate

Illuminate, MLC School’s annual Arts festival, was held this week and showcased the creative talents of students from Pre-Kindergarten through to those in their Senior years of schooling.

As part of this year’s theme Step Right Up, which focused on creating fun and engaging carnival games, students in each Senior School House were challenged to create an interactive game that represents their specific House Spirit. Congratulations to the House Captains and all students involved for their outstanding efforts and achievement – I really enjoyed trying out all the games as part of the judging panel.

Congratulations to The Arts, Design and Visual Arts Captains; Christina Coffey, Eve Banyer and Cassia Davies, the Head of Department – Technology and Applied Sciences (TAS) Renee Willemsen and Head of Department – Visual Arts, Sally Marks, Jake Morrissey and Director of Music, Trevor Mee. Thank you for all of the hard work that you and your teams put into this event.

Study camp

As part of our commitment to supporting our Senior students to do as well as possible in their final years of schooling, next week we will be hosting our inaugural Year 12 Study Camp. Study Camp will provide a structured, supportive, and flexible environment designed to help students focus on the aspects of preparation that will be most beneficial for them.

During the first week of the holidays, Year 12 students will have the opportunity to:

  • Sit full or partial practice exams or in real exam conditions
  • Work independently or with friends collaboratively
  • Get support from academic tutors
  • Attend targeted faculty workshops (Week 1 to Week 3 of the holidays)

While Study Camp is not compulsory, Year 12 students are highly encouraged to attend any or all of the sessions.

Parent Code of Conduct

The consultation period for the revised Parent Code of Conduct has now concluded, thank you to those who provided feedback. The final document is available by clicking here.

Farewell Jeff Wright

Over the break, one of our long serving members of the Maintenance and Facilities team, Jeff Wright, will leave us to enjoy the next phase of his life in retirement. So many students, staff and parents over 15 years have known Jeff to be a quiet achiever in helping to set up our facilities and ensure many, many events have run smoothly. He was usually the first to arrive each morning and often the last to leave. I am sure you will all join me in thanking him for his commitment to his role and the School in general. We wish him all the best for the exciting adventures that lie ahead.

I look forward to seeing everyone again when Term 3 commences on Tuesday 22 July 2025.

Prescott Puppy Pageant 2025: Another Pawsitively Unforgettable Celebration!

Prescott Puppy Pageant 2025: Another Pawsitively Unforgettable Celebration!

The 2025 Prescott Puppy Pageant dazzled audiences again, cementing its place as one of the most heartwarming and community-driven events of the year.

Competition-wise, leading the pack was Maxxie, guided by Tahlia Jeffery (Year 12), who opened the show with an unforgettable performance – stealing the spotlight and the crowd’s hearts, even in the absence of music. Trevor leapt into second place, impressing all with his boundless energy and athletic finesse. Fifi, led by the graceful Alison Wong (Year 12), took third place, charming the audience with her elegance and crowd-favourite appeal.

This year’s campaign launched a week earlier, igniting excitement and boosting fundraising efforts for Seeing Eye Dogs – Vision Australia through pre-sale tickets, tempting raffle prizes, and a delicious bake sale run by Year 10 students. The Prescott House Captains, Halle Hiss and Sky Humphries, have been working tirelessly behind the scenes since last term, mentoring a spirited organising committee and overseeing one of the most seamless and elaborate pageants in recent memory.

It was truly a family affair this year, with the campaign driven by Halle Hiss (House Captain) joined by cousin and Sky Humphries (House Vice-Captain), and Halle’s grandmother, who hand-knitted two stunning Prescott-themed blankets for the winners. Meanwhile, Michelle Hiss, Prescott House Patron, brought fresh energy to the campaign by launching the inaugural ‘Dress Up as a Dog Day’ across the Junior School – taking this year’s pageant to new heights. Students proudly paraded their puppy personas, adding a delightful new dimension to this already vibrant event.

A heartfelt thank you to all who made this year’s pageant possible. From students, teachers, staff, and families. Special appreciation goes to the 2025 Pageant Organising Committee for their stellar efforts in everything from poster design and donation collection to logistics, crowd control, and cleanup. To Michelle Hiss for going above and beyond in expanding the event’s reach and transforming this humble pageant to a cornerstone calendar event. Finally, the captains. Their proactive, passionate and unmatched dedication to both the pageant and the Illuminate project in amongst their busy study schedule presents a model for all other student leaders to come after.

Thanks to your support, this year’s pageant was a tail-wagging triumph. We can’t wait to see what the next year holds – bring on 2026! 🐾

STEM in the Junior School Curriculum – Semester 1 Wrap Up

STEM in the Junior School Curriculum – Semester 1 Wrap Up

It has been a busy and productive semester in STEM in the Junior School. Our students have engaged in various exciting projects that have fostered curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is a key part of our Junior School curriculum, inspiring and challenging students with hands-on experiences to enrich their theoretical knowledge. Our STEM program integrates seamlessly into the classroom through Collaborative Learning Projects (CLP), covering Science and Technology, History, and Geography. These units follow an inquiry-based learning model, engaging students in collaborative learning and promoting engineering-design principles.

Pre-Kindergarten explored the five senses: touch, sight, sound, taste, and smell. By focusing on each sense individually, they learned how each sense provided them with information about their world and affected the way they interacted with it. Additionally, students investigated the world around them through experiments that helped them understand the how and why of everyday phenomena. These investigations included topics such as why it rains, where plants come from, and how volcanoes work.

Kindergarten investigated the properties and purposes of various materials. They explored how different materials could be used and how their properties affected their functionality. Through hands-on experiments, students observed and identified the characteristics of materials they encountered at home or in the classroom. Building on this knowledge, students used the engineering design cycle (ask, imagine, plan, create, improve) to design and construct a house for ‘he fourth little pig that could withstand an attack from the big bad wolf.

Year 1 began the year with a series of digital technology upskilling lessons. These lessons on how best to use hardware and software help lay the foundation for their educational journey as masters of technology rather than simply consumers. Year 1 students learned how to take high quality photos, present visual information in graphics, and developed their block coding skills by using Blue-Bot robots and the companion app.

Year 2 will have two exciting terms of STEM next semester so stay tuned to find out what they will be investigating exploring and creating soon!

Year 3 enjoyed a semester full of STEM projects and experiments, beginning with the development of their block coding skills using the Code Agent in Minecraft Education. They built on their understanding of algorithms and the process of computational thinking, with an introduction to nested loops and ‘if, then’ commands.

For Term 2, they used STEM lessons to enrich their CLP investigations into states of matter, properties of materials, and forms of energy.  With thermometers and pipettes in hand, Year 3 students stretched, dripped, and measured their way through experiments that tested material properties such as elasticity, absorbency, and thermal conductivity and insulation.

Year 4 investigated the effect of contact and non-contact forces on the behaviour of objects with several hands-on investigations. Before diving into their engineering design task, students had to conduct some ‘arduous’ research at the local arcade to understand the forces at play. Armed with this knowledge, they worked collaboratively to apply their understanding of forces using the Engineering-Design Process (ask, imagine, plan, create, improve) to design and create a cardboard arcade machine. They considered resources, investigated materials, components, tools, and techniques, developed criteria for success, and evaluated their design ideas and solutions.

Year 5 entered a new dimension in STEM lessons, learning how to 3D model using the Makers Empire app.  After upskilling on the fundamentals of 3D modelling, they brought their learning on sun safety from their PDHPE lessons into a cross-curricula collaboration in STEM lessons. They utilised the Engineering-Design Process (ask, imagine, plan, create, improve) in small groups to design a sun-safe playground for a section of the MLC Junior School playground. Members in each group took charge of a portion of their on-paper design to convert into a 3D depiction. The basic components of these models will be 3D-printed early in Term 3 and the students will embellish the prints with handcrafted elements to complete a scale representation of their proposed playground.

Year 6 Students extended their CLP investigations into animal adaptation through hands-on activities and robotics engineering using Spike Prime LEGO robotics kits. They used block-based coding to explore how animals survive and thrive in challenging environments and created animatronic robots to mimic these unique adaptations.

Additionally, students learned about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its responsible use. They considered the risks and benefits of generative AI. With the assistance of Microsoft CoPilot and carefully crafted prompts, students planned, conducted, and critically evaluated AI-generated scientific investigations.

Junior School Prescott‘Dress As a Dog Day’
To Support the Seeing Eye Dogs Australia

On Monday 23 June, Prescott Junior School held a vibrant Dress as a Dog day for their Service Learning Initiative in support of Seeing Eye Dogs Australia and the Senior School Prescott Puppy Pageant.

Eager students arrived at school, each bringing a gold coin donation to participate in the special event.

There was a buzz of anticipation as everyone wholeheartedly embraced the unique dress-up day, outfitting themselves with inventive dog-themed accessories.

That morning, the Puppy Stall opened before school, offering a selection of puppy-themed accessories. With supplies limited, students were quick to purchase their puppy ear headbands, paw print wrist bands, and other fun items.

Many children also showcased their creativity by designing and wearing their own homemade costumes. How gorgeous!

Later, all of Junior School, from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 5, gathered at lunchtime to watch the much-anticipated Prescott Puppy Pageant.

The students were delighted to watch the puppies as they showcased their unique talents and charming tricks around the course.

The School was filled with joy and laughter, bringing the whole community together for a wonderful cause.

It was a memorable day full of enthusiasm, creativity, and support for Seeing Eye Dogs Australia. Everyone enjoyed seeing the variety of costumes, and the event was a resounding success.

Thank you for all of your support for this special day.

Round Square Week Celebrations

This week, our community came alive with the spirit of Round Square Week – a vibrant celebration of global citizenship, adventure, and service. Students embraced the six IDEALS of Round Square, participating in workshops, challenges, and projects that built connections across cultures and inspired leadership in action. Highlights included the Thrift Shop led by Environment Captain Hattie Russell, lunchtime activities, the bake sale and the cultural mufti day which included dancing and performances at lunchtime. The energy and enthusiasm throughout the week made it an excellent final week of term, and we are so proud of everyone who took part. Thank you to Round Square coordinator Xavier Maling and Community and Round Square Captain Khushii Varma and the Year 12 students who made the week a great success.

Prescott Puppy Pageant

Round Square Week also saw us celebrate the joy of dogs on site with the Prescott Puppy Pageant! The girls did so well to organise the day and to raise money for the Seeing Eye Dogs – Vision Australia. Well done to the Head of Prescott House, Henry Wijanto, Hallie Hiss, Prescott House Captain and Skye Humphries, Prescott House Vice-Captain.

Illuminate success

The Illuminate event on Tuesday night showcased the remarkable talents and creativity of our students from the Technology and Applied Sciences (TAS), Visual Arts, and Music departments. Their performances, projects, and artworks were a testament to their dedication and commitment to the arts. We are incredibly proud of the energy and effort every student invested in bringing this celebration of creativity to life. Special thanks goes to Renee Willemson, Head of Department – Technology and Applied Sciences (TAS), Sally Marks, Head of Department – Visual Arts, Trevor Mee, Director of Music and their wonderful team of hardworking teachers for making the evening possible and giving the students an opportunity to showcase their works.

Our House Captains also led their Houses to create a vibrant atmosphere at ‘Side Show Alley’ filling it with fantastic side show alley playable games which was one of the highlights of the evening. Thank you to the Heads of Houses who supported the students to make this happen.

Holidays

As this issue of Audacia comes out, we are likely all exhausted after having a fantastic time at the MLC School Colour Run, coming together as a whole Pre-Kindergarten – Year 12 School community to raise money for the Sony Foundation Camp. I wish you all the best for a restful holiday break.

Academic Care – Getting Ahead of the Game One Step at a Time

Academic Care – Getting Ahead of the Game One Step at a Time

In the mid-19th century, blacksmith Elihu Burritt desired to cast off the shackles of his mundane craft, and instead devote himself to studies. In reality though, the basic needs of life required him to spend over 11 hours a day at the forge, seriously challenging his ability to build his academic platform. However, despite such hindrances, Burritt spent as much time as possible away from the smith with his head in the books. He was known for spending his lunch breaks, walks home, and leisure time in the pursuit of learning. In doing so, he amassed nineteen languages, became a diplomat, philanthropist, abolitionist and presided over the First International Peace Conference. His later legacy, a far cry from the early days spent pounding iron.

I often hear our girls worried about the large amount of work required to be completed, and the few hours available to do so in. I sympathise with them; high school is often a grind. It requires hard work, diligence, and sacrifice. It is why, like Burritt demonstrated, I encouraged the girls to both plan their time, and use each moment efficiently. For the Senior students, one shouldn’t frame them as ‘free periods’ or ‘spares’, rather ‘study periods’, where they can get ahead on homework, study or assessments. In the Junior years, utilising StudyHub+ one evening a week could help students get well ahead with their revision or assessments. Whilst a balance between academic and social life is needed, there’s always an opportunity to ‘steal’ a few minutes to develop one’s learning.

With the holidays approaching, Year 7 and Year 12 have discussed and developed a range of goals for the break. In Academic Care time we highlighted the need to disconnect, but also utilise the break strategically to enhance their learning, particularly for those with examinations on the horizon. Year 12 students should be considering attending the Week 1 Study Camp, where there is a great opportunity to study in a familiar and supported environment, and even complete a practise test under formal examination conditions. For Junior girls, think about the term gone by; What notes need updating? What concepts need revision? What assessments are on the horizon? And, does your desk need a good clean up (delousing)?

I trust the holidays bring a sense or refreshment, provide opportunity for renewal and exploration of new hobbies, and help to kickstart the second half of the year.

UNSW ‘Do The Maths’ – Empowering Women, Inspiring Futures

UNSW ‘Do The Maths’ – Empowering Women, Inspiring Futures

On Wednesday 25 June, Year 11 HSC Mathematics Extension 1 students headed to the University of New South Wales for the flagship annual event designed for female secondary students with demonstrative capacity, talent and interest in Mathematics. It was the 20th anniversary of the event and the day consisted of a talk from the 2025 UNSW Women in Mathematics and Statistics Ambassador Dr Asilata Bapat, an interactive workshop activity followed by a Q&A panel of current UNSW students and alumni with careers in Mathematics.

The talks were inspiring and showed how Mathematics can be used in various careers and everyday life. The highlight of the day would have to be the Counting Conundrums activity where students worked through various problems, only to find that they were all connected. When the lightbulb moment hit, students were cheering with awe and genuine excitement. It was a nice change of scenery from the usual mathematics done in the classroom and hopefully a day that will inspire some students to continue with mathematics in their future.

Sayonara to Chihiro Sensei

Sayonara to Chihiro Sensei

For the past three weeks, Chihiro Sensei from Hyogo, Japan has been volunteering in the Languages Department. With a background in language education, Chihiro quickly built a meaningful rapport with our students. Her presence will be greatly missed by both our junior learners and especially the senior IB cohort. Chihiro is very grateful for the opportunity and has shared her reflections on her time with us.

‘I have really enjoyed assisting the Japanese classes at MLC School. I must first express how fortunate I feel to have been placed at such a wonderful school. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by its beautiful, modern architecture, thoughtfully designed learning spaces, and delightful students.

I was especially lucky to connect so easily with the students. Sharing photos and fun facts about my hometown, Hyogo, I was touched by their genuine curiosity about Japanese culture and their enthusiasm for language learning. The juniors were especially enthusiastic, expressing excitement over even the simplest discoveries – like naming their favourite colours in Japanese. For those students near the end of their high school journey, the senior students, whose Japanese speaking proficiency was truly impressive, showed me that it is no doubt due to their diligence and passion for the language.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude. Every person I have encountered has been exceptionally kind and welcoming, for which I am deeply thankful. Special thanks to Collins Sensei and the Languages Department staff for their constant support, which made my experience truly rewarding.’

Welcome to the mid-year break! I cannot believe Year 7 have already completed two terms of high school. It has flown! It was lovely this week, in Academic Care, for the students to reflect on their academic journey so far and make plans for semester 2. Academic Care

During our Academic Care session on Wednesday, Marianna Carlino, Director of eLearning, presented to students on respectful relationships. Marianna guided students through a discussion about the characteristics of respectful, healthy relationships, both offline and online. Students were asked to discuss and respond to the following questions on Post-It notes, and then share their answers by placing their Post-It notes around the room:

  • How respectful do you think you are? Does this change depending on the nature of the relationship and who it’s with? Or perhaps who else is around?
  • Do you find how respectful you are changes depending on whether you are offline or online? How can you make sure that you are as respectful in online relationships as you are when face-to-face with the person?
  • What are some ways you show respect in your online and offline relationships?

Thank you to all for attending the Subject Selection Interviews on Monday. Your support and engagement are invaluable as your daughters make important decisions about their academic journey. A gentle reminder that subject preferences are due by Monday 30 June 2025, so please ensure they are submitted on time.

This final week of term has been a big week as we celebrated Round Square Week. It’s always a highlight of the term, and this year was no exception! It is great to see students from all year levels come together to enjoy a wide range of activities—from Just Dance sessions, chalk drawings to watching cultural dances. The spirit of Round Square was truly alive this week.

Illuminate, on Tuesday was a tremendous success. A huge congratulations to all our Year 10 students whose creativity and effort were on full display. Your work was inspiring and a testament to your hard work.

We wrapped up the term with a bang at the MLC School Colour Run – a fantastic way to bring everyone together in support of a great cause. It was great way to end what has been a busy term.

Year 10 PDHPE Develop Lifesaving Skills

Year 10 PDHPE Develop Lifesaving Skills

This term, our amazing Year 10 students have embraced a diverse practical program in swimming and lifesaving. From learning CPR technique to tackling complex water rescues, they developed vital lifesaving skills. Many also proudly achieved their Bronze Star Award, displaying their determination and practical capability.

In theory lessons, students have explored the complex issues of racism, stereotypes, and social justice. Through the documentary Freeman and a range of case studies, they examined the impact of racism on First Nation’s individuals and communities-reflecting on Cathy Freeman’s inspiring journey and her powerful role in promoting understanding and reconciliation through sport.

Whether they were diving into the pool or into important conversations, our Year 10 students showed what they’re made of: compassion, curiosity, and the courage to stand up and make a difference.  Wishing all our families a safe and happy holiday break.

Year 11

Year 11

As the term draws to a close, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful experience of working with Year 11. It has been an absolute pleasure stepping in as Acting Head of Year again in 2025, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every opportunity to engage with this remarkable cohort. Their energy, commitment, and ability to rise to challenges have been truly inspiring.

As we move into the holiday period, I encourage all Year 11 students to strike a healthy balance between study and relaxation. While the holidays provide a valuable chance to revise and consolidate learning, it is equally important to allow time for rest and a mental reset. This balance is crucial for maintaining both academic performance and overall well-being.

We finished the term with the MLC School Colour Run. I’d like to highlight the fantastic efforts of Year 11 during the recent MLC School Colour Run event, where the Year 11 Bake Sale was a resounding success. The students demonstrated exemplary organisation, dedication, and generosity in managing the bake sale, showcasing their teamwork and leadership skills. A special shout-out goes to our SRC representatives, who went above and beyond in ensuring the smooth execution of the event. Their hard work and enthusiasm truly made a difference, and I am incredibly proud of their contributions.

Thank you to all parents for your continued support throughout the term. Your involvement plays a key role in the success and growth of our Year 11 students, and I look forward to seeing what this exceptional group will achieve in the coming months as they step into becoming the leaders of the School.

Students return on Tuesday 22 July 2025 – in full winter uniform. Check Uniform requirements in the Parent Information Handbook here.

Acting Head of Year 11

Year 12

Year 12

The final week of Term 2 has arrived, and we are looking forward to the winter break. For Year 12, this holiday is slightly different, with study camp and workshops being planned for next week and throughout the next three weeks. The holidays are a great opportunity to catch up, prepare for the Trials next term and focus, as well as planning some time to connect with friends and family. In Academic Care this week, Year 12 completed a study plan for the holidays to use their time well and feel more prepared, without the distractions the school environment can bring.

Week 9 is Round Square week, a special event in the MLC School calendar. Khushii Varma, Round Square Captain and Hattie Russell, Environment Captain, worked all week on their stalls and activities for Illuminate 2025. Hattie designed a Lazy Depop clothing stall, to raise awareness of overconsumption and the impact of fast fashion on the environment. It was a big hit, and the girls have worked hard all week. As a fundraising effort, all proceeds go to the Australian Conservation Foundation.

Our image this week is of Diversity Captain Anita Mohanan, Hattie Russell, Environment Captain and Amy Li, from the Round Square team. The Prescott Puppy Pageant was held on Monday, hosted by Hallie Hiss, Prescott House Captain and Skye Humphries, Prescott House Vice-Captain and Year 12 students Tahlia Jeffrey and Alison Wong’s prized pooches took out the prizes. All funds raised on the day go to Seeing Eye Dogs – Vision Australia.

Illuminate 2025, hosted by Christina Coffey, The Arts Captain, with Eve Banyer, Visual Arts Captain, Tiana Robinson, Crew Captain and Cassia Davies, Design Captain was a great success that showcased the art and design talents of the whole School. The House Captains worked very hard on their individual game projects as part of the G. A. Davey Cup House Competition and were a great hit.

In co-curricular news, Tess Petschner, Amy Lee and Felicia Hannah, Fencing Captain, were successful in their individual events, representing MLC School for Fencing, winning seven medals from Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12. This is a fantastic achievement in a highly competitive and complex sport and the girls have been working hard on their events since Year 10. Our second image this week shows Tess Petschner on the podium after the epee event, while Felicia and Amy were successful in the foils. Angelina Le, Whitley House Captain and Sima Tebbutt, Basketball Captain were part of the successful MLC School Basketball team, winning their grand final last Saturday.

Whether you are taking a break outside Sydney or bunkering down in the beautiful winter sun, please encourage your daughters to get outside, take a walk to break up the study program. Ask them about what they are learning and offer help and support. They are facing a great challenge next term, and they will be ready, but they also do appreciate the interest. Talking about the topic is also a great way to revise! The Senior School Library will be open throughout the break, as well as Study Camp next week.

Celebrate Year 12 in a Different Way

Year 12 is an important time in your daughter’s life. Over the years she has dared to be more and has left her mark on the MLC School landscape. Why not leave something lasting at the School to celebrate her time here?

A gift of a paver in your daughter’s name is a permanent tribute to her and your family’s involvement with MLC School. It can include a couple of brief lines about her activities or interests. Order a paver by Friday 18 July 2025 and to ensure that your daughter will be able to see her name in the entry way of the school grounds on her last day of school, as part of the Paver Reveal Ceremony on Valedictory day. Full details are available here.

Students return on Tuesday 22 July 2025 – in full winter uniform. Check Uniform requirements in the Parent Information Handbook here.

Enjoy the break and take care.

Year 12 Food Technology

Year 12 Food Technology

Year 12 Food Technology students have recently been engaging in experimentation related to the preservation of foods. They produced two cured salmon products, salmon gravlax and beetroot cured salmon which were then vacuum sealed to extend the shelf life of the fish.

The students also explored bottling and sterilisation processes and produced dill pickles and jam. The last preservation experimentation involved use of the dehydrator to produce a range of dried fruits and fruit leathers (also known as fruit ‘roll ups’).

Year 12 IB Collaborative Performances

Year 12 IB Collaborative Performances

IB Theatre is a multi-faceted subject that takes commitment, collaboration and a real love of Drama and Theatre. On Thursday night, 19 June, Year 12 HL presented their Collaborative Group Performances for a public audience which was filmed for submission as an assessment task to the IBO. The girls worked tirelessly throughout the term to produce thought-provoking, creative, works based on the practices of different theatre companies that they researched.

The diverse works saw The Perks of Being a Wallflower, a movement piece about the difficulty of human connection across all eras. Then 2B or not 2B highlighted the absurd flaws and the narrowness of current assessments. The group works drew many comments in the Q and A that followed, and the girls now go on to write a 10-page portfolio of their experiences.

University Admissions and Support Pathways

University Admissions and Support Pathways

There are a number of resources that have been shared with Year 12 students throughout the term. Following is a list that you may have missed or would like to revisit:

Please read through and use them to guide your next steps.

UAC Application

Students should aim to submit their UAC application before Term 3 begins.
Refer to the How to apply for unit through UAC if unsure.

You only need to list one course to start with – this locks in your application.

You can update your preferences later.

Don’t forget to apply for the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) if you’re eligible. Here’s a video to help you apply if unsure: How to apply for the Educational Access Scheme

Early Entry

Submit any Early Entry applications still outstanding. Most are simple and low-effort – you will need to upload Year 11 reports if you’re an IB student. Note: Macquarie University requires more detail – you’ll need to describe 2–3 activities you’ve taken part in (eg: leadership, part-time work, volunteering).

Interstate Applications

If you’re applying outside NSW, don’t forget to register with the relevant admissions centres:

  • VTAC (Victoria) – edu.au
  • QTAC (Queensland) – edu.au
  • SATAC (South Australia) – edu.au
  • TISC (Western Australia) – edu.au

Scholarships and References

If you’re applying for scholarships, residential colleges, or special programs that require a reference, complete the attached Reference Request Form and email it back to me. Try to give at least two weeks’ notice for reference requests – this helps us write something thoughtful and personal.

MLC School Dance Teams Represent at AASCF Winterfest 2025

Congratulations to our Hip Hop and Pom teams for their strong performances at the AASCF Winterfest competition held Saturday 21 June at Sydney Olympic Park Quay Centre. Our dancers represented MLC School with discipline, focus and commitment.

In the Primary Scholastic division, the Mini Pom team placed fourth and the Junior Pom team placed third. The Year 3 – Year 4 Mini Hip Hop team secured second place, while the Year 5 – Year 6 Junior Hip Hop team took third. These results reflect the consistency and cooperation developed during after-school rehearsals.

In the Secondary division, the Senior Pom team placed fourth for their clean execution. The Year 7 – Year 8 Intermediate Hip Hop team achieved third place, and the Senior Hip Hop crew earned first place, receiving the title of Senior Hip Hop Overall Grand Scholastic Champions 2025.

These results would not have been possible without the time, care and expertise of our Dance staff. Thank you to Ms Jess, Miss Afamia, Miss Maya, Miss Madi, Miss Tori, Miss Jorja and Ms Skepper for their support, leadership and choreography on the day and leading up to the event.

Farewelling our Year 12 Cadets

Farewelling our Year 12 Cadets

As the 2024/2025 cadet cycle draws to a close, we take this moment to thank and acknowledge the incredible contribution of our Year 12 cadets. Whether serving as Platoon Commanders, Medics, Signallers, or in the Q Store, each senior cadet has taken on significant responsibility this year – not just in title, but in the way they have shown up, led others, and modelled what it means to serve.

Balancing the demands of school, cadets, and leadership is no small feat. The time, care, and commitment each of you has given to supporting the development of your peers has not gone unnoticed. You have left a lasting mark on the unit, and we are deeply grateful.

Congratulations to CUO Zoe Likely and A2 for winning the A Company Platoon Competition, and to CUO Angelina Le and B10, the winner for B Company. Your dedication to your platoons, attention to detail, and leadership have been recognised by your peers and staff alike.

Congratulations to CUO Sophia Grave, who was awarded Cadet Under Officer of the Year 2025 at the Dining in Night on Thursday. She led with quiet confidence, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to her responsibilities. Sophia consistently displayed leadership with clarity and kindness in all her interactions and was described as ‘a true asset to NCACU – a model of what CUOs strive to be within the Australian Army Cadets.’

To all our staff, thank you for your ongoing guidance, encouragement, and expertise. Your contribution to the development of these young leaders is immeasurable, and your support throughout the 2024/2025 cadet cycle has ensured its success.

As we look ahead, we are excited to welcome 65 new Year 8 recruits into our newly established MLCSACU. We look forward to building a strong, inclusive, and inspiring cadet experience for this next generation – with the legacy of our outgoing Year 12 cadets leading the way.
