Year 6 Celebration of Learning
On a memorable evening, parents, teachers, and distinguished guests gathered to celebrate the Year 6 Showcase event, a culmination of months of hard work and dedication. This event highlighted the collaborative efforts between MLC School and Sydney Science Park, focusing on creating liveable and innovative communities.
The students’ projects revolved around key elements such as urban development, infrastructure, water management, energy solutions, transport systems, and a circular economy. The event showcased the successful partnership between Sydney Science Park and MLC School, with projects based on the Luddenham site in Western Sydney, soon to be accessible via the new Metro line and Western Sydney Airport.
Throughout the year, students engaged in various activities to understand the importance of liveable cities. They mapped out successful communities and created their own liveable city plans, which were showcased at Sydney Science Park. The interactive sessions with multiple schools provided valuable insights and inspiration for the students.
In their Collaborative Learning Project (CLP), students focused on identifying the properties of matter, materials, reversible and irreversible changes, heat, and different forms of energy. These scientific topics were crucial in designing innovative solutions for Sydney Science Park. Experts from CSIRO and Sydney Science Park aimed to use new and improved materials to enhance the park’s liveability and sustainability.
In August, Year 6 students visited Sydney Science Park, participating in activities related to the pillars of sustainability: transport, electricity, heat, and water. These hands-on experiences were both enjoyable and informative, helping students deepen their understanding of the topics. Later in the term, students interviewed industry specialists via Teams, receiving valuable feedback and guidance. Special thanks are extended to parent volunteers who shared their experiences and expertise with the students.
The Showcase evening on 17 September was a vibrant celebration of the students’ creativity, innovation, and hard work. Their dedication was evident in the impressive variety of projects, including posters, models, websites, and podcasts. Attendees were encouraged to engage with the students’ presentations, scan codes, watch presentations, and play games. The evening truly highlighted the students’ remarkable efforts to make Sydney Science Park a more sustainable, liveable, and innovative place for the future. Their enthusiasm and commitment were truly inspiring, showcasing incredible creativity and depth of knowledge. Click here to view the facebook album.
