From the Acting Head of Junior School

It has been a week of mixed emotions at MLC School this week. Our very excited Kindergarten girls sang ‘So Long Farewell’ from The Sound of Music to our Year 12 girls at their Final Assembly. I do not think there was a dry eye amongst the graduating class. There was another touching moment when the Senior girls who have attended MLC School since Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten visited the Junior School to play games with the girls and in turn, the Year 12 ‘Lifers’ received a farewell card from our youngest students who drew a portrait of the big girls! We wish our Year 12 students the very best for their approaching final exams.

Along with Year 12, Year 6 and Pre-Kindergarten parents also visited our School this week for their Celebrations of Learning. Thank you, parents, for taking time to share the importance of learning and show the value of learning here at MLC School.

Kindergarten and Year 1 Adventure Camp

After Kindergarten sang to Year 12, they headed off to Burwood Park for their Outdoor Adventure Camp. Year 1 also explored the great outdoors and got muddy at their Outdoor Adventure Camp to Lane Cove National Park.

Year 6 Showcase

It was a very significant and successful event on Tuesday evening for Year 6 as they hosted their annual ‘Showcase’. This evening provided an opportunity for each girl to display their skills in their chosen area to research as well as share their achievements in other subjects. This year the students selected an environmental area to research based on the new Sydney Science Park being built next to Western Sydney Airport. Year 6 students have been working with industry partners as part of this exciting and unique project. It was wonderful to see all our Year 6 parents participating, interviewing the girls about their area of study. Some of our Year 6 parents who have a related professional background also worked with Year 6 throughout this project. Please read all about the Showcase in our Year 6 news by clicking here.

Year 5 Drama Performances

The many talents of our Year 5 students were on display during their Drama performances in Potts Hall on Monday. The students had fun, entertained and made the audience laugh with witty scripts and dramatic performances. It was great to see so many parents come along to watch their daughters and cheer all Year 5 girls. A big thank you to Samantha Anderson, Junior School Drama teacher, for all her efforts to bring this to fruition.

Stay & Play

As our newsletter reaches your inbox, Kindergarten to Year 5 will be participating in ‘Stay & Play’, an event held each year on the last day of Term 3. Our Junior School Student Council (JSSC) host a fun afternoon of activities and sell items to raise money for the JSSC to purchase items for School. Thanks also to our Year 5 parents who provided a cake stall and ran the Snow Cone and Fairy Floss Stalls.

I look forward to seeing all the girls in their summer uniform return on Tuesday 15 October 2024, for a fulfilling Term 4.
