Representative Swimming Squad Trials
To prepare our interested swimmers for the competition season, we are once again holding our assessment day for our Representative Swimming Squad.
Participating in this squad will develop students’ skills and competence in competitive swimming, enabling them to compete with confidence and achieve the goals they set for themselves. The format of moving to a squad-based program means we can develop a team culture based on being committed to training, supporting and encouraging our teammates, and competing to the best of our ability. We want our athletes to learn that hard work pays off, we want them to develop self-belief and to be proud to represent MLC School at Inter-school Championships. The introduction of this squad program has led to our senior swimmers achieving State and National representation.
Being members of a representative swimming program provides more opportunities for training, and other competitions outside of the major IGSA and IPSHA Championships for those students who want to take competing to that next level, and possibly continue on the representative pathway for swimming.
The assessment day will be in the form of time trials. Students will need to swim 50m in any or all of the four swimming strokes.
For students in Year 3 and Year 4 a guide to the times they should be swimming are faster than 50 seconds over 50 metres in all four strokes.
Students in Year 5 and should be faster than 40 seconds.
Students in this squad will be expected to train once a week during the Christmas holiday period, and twice a week during Term 1. Training days are either Tuesday or Friday mornings 7am–8am. This is subject to change depending on the needs of the squad.
Students in this squad are not guaranteed a swim at the IPSHA and IGSA Championships. These teams will primarily be selected from this squad based on times at targeted meets.
If you would like your daughter to trial for the Representative Swimming Squad, please complete the below form by Friday 25 November 2022.
