Magdalena Gives Back

Recognising Community Service

We want to acknowledge Magdalena (Year 2), who has been involved in some important community service over the past few months, showing the school values of compassion and respect.  Robyn Monro Miller, CEO of Kids Giving Back, a charity that provides meaningful, hands-on experiences for children and young people to give back to others, has written to the School, expressing her thanks and admiration for Magdalena’s efforts. On weekends and in the school holidays, Magdalena has assisted in the preparation of meals for the homeless, packing care packs and delivering hampers for people experiencing food scarcity. Robyn praised Magdalena’s enthusiasm in undertaking these tasks and her desire to learn more about the cause she was supporting.

The team at Kids Giving Back were most impressed by the strong work ethic displayed by Magdalena who undertook such tasks as resource development, food preparation and letter writing.

“During the holidays, I volunteered at Kids Giving Back. I made some delicious, healthy meals such as fruit skewers and muesli cereal. My brother did it as well. I learnt that life is so hard for homeless people, especially during the current pandemic. They called me Miss Environmentalist because when they asked a question “if some people came and gave you a meal with meat in it and you were vegetarian what would you do?” I said “I would either pick it out or deal with it.” Then everyone cracked up laughing and then I laughed as well! I had a great time”
