Upcoming Events & Info Sessions

UOW Spotlight on Journalism

  • When: Monday, 21 September 2026
  • Details: An immersive 90-minute evening session exploring storytelling and career pathways in written, audio and visual media. Includes a tour of UOW’s newsroom, video production and radio studios.

UOW Spotlight on Music and Performance

  • When: Tuesday, 22 September 2026
  • Details: Find out what a Bachelor of Creative Arts looks like at UOW. Features snippets of live performances by current students and insights into performance career pathways.

Discover Sport & Exercise at UTS

  • When: Tuesday, 22 September 2026
  • Details: Head to the UTS Moore Park campus to tour cutting-edge facilities and chat with academics about careers in sport, exercise and health science.

Macquarie Discover Lecture: Coding With Care

UNSW Careers 2040: STEM Careers Reimagined

  • When: Wednesday, 23 September 2026
  • Details: Held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. Top scientists, engineers and industry experts will discuss how multidisciplinary thinking and postgrad study shape future STEM roles.

Moving to Canberra & Living on Campus at ANU

  • When: Wednesday, 23 September 2026
  • Details: An online webinar covering residential life, campus support, making friends and practical tips for relocating to Canberra.

Young Architects Workshop (Ages 12–16)

  • When: Thursday, 24 September 2026
  • Details: A free hands-on architecture workshop at Maitland Regional Art Gallery with architect Paul Berkemeier and artist Jen Denzin.

Spring Holiday Programs & Early October Dates

  • WSU Free Online HSC Study Sessions (28 Sep–7 Oct): 22 free online HSC preparation sessions across 14 subjects, delivered by senior teachers. Includes content analysis, exam strategies and practice paper deconstructions.
  • Quantum Tech Camp (29 Sep–1 Oct): A free 3-day hybrid program for Years 9–12 exploring quantum computing, coding and Python problem-solving challenges.
  • AIM Music Theatre Audition Workshop (29–30 Sep): A two-day intensive at AIM’s Sydney Campus working with industry professionals to refine audition technique and repertoire.
  • Discover Security: Cyber Security Day (29 Sep): A hands-on cybersecurity workshop for girls in Years 7–8 at Westpac Sydney.
  • You’ve Received an ANU Early Offer — What Happens Next? (29 Sep): Webinar covering offer acceptance, changing preferences and key university setup dates.

Graphic Designer vs. Illustrator: What’s the Difference?

While both are visual design fields, they solve different creative problems:

    • Graphic Designers focus on layout, typography and brand identity to communicate a clear message for a client or product.
    • Illustrators focus on creating original artwork from scratch to tell a story or set a specific mood.
    • Pathways: Graphic design is typically studied via TAFE Diplomas (1–2 years) or University Degrees in Visual Communication (3 years). Illustration pathways rely heavily on portfolio work alongside formal visual art studies.

Exam & Assessment Adjustments

If a disability, health condition, or learning difficulty impacts how your son completes assessments, reasonable adjustments are available to level the playing field:

    • At School: Adjustments (like extra time, separate rooms, or rest breaks) are arranged through classroom teachers or the Learning Support Coordinator.
    • At University: Students register directly with the university’s Disability/Equity support office to set up a Learning Access Plan before or early in the semester.
