Year 5/6 GRIT Program

Year 5/6 GRIT Program

Year 5 and 6 students are participating in a GRIT program for Term 3 and 4 each Friday afternoon, Session 6 and 7.

The word ‘grit’ is often used to describe resilience, perseverance and determination. GRIT aims to develop grit and much more. GRIT is an acronym for Getting Along, Resilience Thinking, Identifying Emotions and Taking Responsibility.

Over Term 3 and 4 the Year 5 and 6 students will participate in the following four rotations:

Rotation 1 is about Service Learning

Students learn educational standards through tackling real-life problems in their community. They will develop an understanding of homelessness in Mandurah and engage in community service with the Salvation Army by making meals for the homeless and sorting through donation items at the Thrift shop.

Rotation 2 is Gym Sports

Students will develop new skills and challenge themselves by participating in gym sports such as Gymnastics, Ninja warrior and parkour (this will take place at Infinity Gym Sports Centre, Greenfields). – See below for Gym Sports Action!

Rotation 3 is Industrial Arts

Industrial Arts is an educational program that features the fabrication of objects in wood or metal using a variety of hand, power, or machine tools. Students will follow the design process and create a functional item, such as a wooden money or jewelry box.

Rotation 4 is about Innovation and 21st Century Skills

Makey Makey is an incredible tool to get students thinking about how they can use technology to interact with their environment in imaginative ways. Students will use Makey Makey kits to connect the world around them to their computers.
