NAIDOC Assembly

NAIDOC Assembly

NAIDOC week was celebrated a week early and students took part in activities such as damper making, Indigenous Art and storytelling, and the week finished with our NAIDOC Assembly.

The theme for this year was “Keep the fire burning” and Mr Stanway spoke to us about how important community is to the Indigenous people. It is through community children learn from their elders, the elders make decisions on behalf of their community and any new ideas must be endorsed by the elders before being adopted into the village. By children learning from their elders, the fire of community will keep burning.

Mr Stanway explained how the Bible also tells of the importance of living and learning in our Christian community and that the Holy Spirit was represented as fire on the day of Pentecost.

He went on to remind us that our College is a wonderful community with amazing families, and we are all very passionate about teaching our children the values God wants our children to learn.

Our Unity Banner which was created in 2018, was also on display, and features the scripture from Romans 12:5: “So we, being many, are one body in Christ and individually members of one another.” A reminder that while we are individuals, we are one in Christ.
