Book Week and Free Dress Day in Secondary School!!
This year’s Book Week was bigger and better for our Secondary School, thanks to a number of initiatives from our English department.
Students were able to dress as a book character, or wear free dress and donate a book or item to charity. Daily word puzzles were completed in home classes, Mr Shanhun can personally attest to the level of competition in the games, as he joined a number of Year 8 and 9 Home classes. Results can be seen below.
Another highlight of the dress up day was when the Year 12 students visited the Early Learning Centre, in full costume, to read books and play. This was beautiful to see, as all involved reported how positive and encouraging it was for, both the Yr 12s to play and interact, and for the Kindy kids to be inspired. We hope you enjoy the images captured from the day in the photo gallery below. Two of our Students shared some comments about this time with Kindy students:
Book week is a magnificent time to share and celebrate the joy of reading with others. On Thursday the 24th of August, the fabulously-dressed year 12 students visited the Kindergarten and Pre-Primary children for a session of reading, adventure and fun.
I am Alyssa, a year 12 student at Foundation, and I dressed up as Mary, Jesus’ mother from the Bible, for book week. Embarking on an imaginative journey with the children through each word or picture and bonding with them during play time was a lovely experience. It was inspiring to see the young generation connect with the inner child of my fellow year 12 students as they read Dr. Seuss together, played games and whipped up imaginary ‘sand’wiches dressed as pretty princesses. Celebrating God’s gift of books with the young students is one memorable page in this chapter of my life I’ll remember forever, so thank you Foundation Christian College!
Reading to the kindy students was a very delightful and heart-warming experience. Lots of smiles, laughter, and new friendships. It was rewarding getting to know each one of their unique personalities and being able to bridge the age gap through the genuine connections made. This will be a memory I will cherish as I graduate.

Thank you to all staff and students for getting creatively involved, we look forward to going even bigger next year!
