Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you are enjoying the change of season. Spring is such as wonderful time of the year, and it is great to be able to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine. There continues to be lots of exciting things happening at the College. Recently, we held the Secondary Athletics Carnival, the Book week celebrations (Costumes, Parade, and Primary Learning Journey), the Fathering Project Design & Technology night, the Father’s Day stall plus other excursions, incursions, and events. These events help foster a sense of community at the College which is essential for student well-being and student learning.

National School Improvement Plan (NSIP)

Domain #3 of the National School Improvement Plan (NSIP): A Culture that Promotes Learning states that ‘the school is driven by a deep belief that every student is capable of successful learning. A high priority is given to building and maintaining positive and caring relationships between staff, students, and parents.’ Also, the NSIP Assessment Consideration #3.2 explains how ‘the staff of the school demonstrate an understanding of the importance of positive and caring relationships to successful learning, and work to build mutually respectful relationships across the school community’. The College mission statement reinforces the emphasis upon relationships when it says ‘we provide a Christ-centred Education in a caring community…’

Australian Association of Christian Schools (AACS)

Vision: To promote and defend the value of Christian education

The Australian Association of Christian Schools (AACS) is an advocacy organisation representing the interests of over a hundred Christian schools in every State and Territory across the nation. We provide our schools with a voice in the public sphere to ensure they can continue to deliver an authentic Christian education embedded in the teaching and life of the school.

WA: Equal Opportunity Act E-Petition

The WA Law Reform Commission has recommended the Government make changes to the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 that would significantly impact Christian and other faith -based schools. The proposed changes would restrict our ability to employ Christian staff across all roles within the school and impact the ability of schools to manage enrolments to reflect an alignment with the beliefs of the school.

The Government has talked about introducing legislation this year, however, at the same time the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) is looking at changes to Commonwealth law. We believe there is no urgency to make changes to the WA law, and considerable benefits to ensuring that Commonwealth and State laws align.

We are asking for your help to encourage the WA Government to hold off on changes to the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 until after the ALRC has delivered its final report to Government (due at the end of this year).

WA resident – please sign the WA Parliament e-Petition to send a strong message to the government. The closing date is soon! Both parents in a family can sign to double the impact.

Their goal is to have 50,000 signed up supporters to My Christian School by the end of the year!
Please encourage your school and church communities to subscribe to My Christian School – simply click on the QR Code and show MP’s that parents want to continue to have the choice of a genuine Christian education for their children.  The website shares the positive message to MPs that our schools are different and that our school communities are making positive impact around Australia.
Please continue to reach out to your local MPs and Senators.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and please continue to pray as we moved forward into the exciting future God has for the College.

God bless you!

Book Week Extravaganza and Learning Journey!

Book Week Extravaganza and Learning Journey!

Thank you to staff, families and students for an incredible Book Week!

It was so encouraging to see so much participation from staff and students dressing up in costume! Extra special mention should go to Mr Stanway for his “in character” impersonation of Gru from Despicable Me – what joy it was to see students and our College Principal having fun along side one another.

Hosting the parade were Mr King as Peter Pan and Mrs Jackson as Snow White.

Classrooms looked great, and our Primary auditorium was spectacular. We received lots of praise from families commending staff dedication and how much they enjoyed themselves. Events like these strengthen our community. It was so encouraging to see so many families picnicking on the grassed area well after 5:30pm that night and enjoying family time.

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

Enjoy these images from our Book week PArade!

Learning Journey and family picnic highlights!

The displays were incredible – so much work and amazing effort went into creating the amazing displays – our children and their teachers worked very hard to make them for us!

We hope you enjoyed the food vans and family picnic time at the end of a very busy day!

The Circus Challenge Came to Primary School!

The Circus Challenge Came to Primary School!

Students from Kindy to Year 6 were treated to a visit from the circus! Circus Challenge performed for students where there was plenty of audience interaction and then each yeargroup was able to spend time in their own personal session of learning their own circus tricks!

The moral of the day was that if you want to learn something new, you must keep trying and never give up!

Book Week and Free Dress Day in Secondary School!!

Book Week and Free Dress Day in Secondary School!!

This year’s Book Week was bigger and better for our Secondary School, thanks to a number of initiatives from our English department.

Students were able to dress as a book character, or wear free dress and donate a book or item to charity. Daily word puzzles were completed in home classes, Mr Shanhun can personally attest to the level of competition in the games, as he joined a number of Year 8 and 9 Home classes. Results can be seen below.

Another highlight of the dress up day was when the Year 12 students visited the Early Learning Centre, in full costume, to read books and play. This was beautiful to see, as all involved reported how positive and encouraging it was for, both the Yr 12s to play and interact, and for the Kindy kids to be inspired. We hope you enjoy the images captured from the day in the photo gallery below. Two of our Students shared some comments about this time with Kindy students:

Book week is a magnificent time to share and celebrate the joy of reading with others. On Thursday the 24th of August, the fabulously-dressed year 12 students visited the Kindergarten and Pre-Primary children for a session of reading, adventure and fun.

I am Alyssa, a year 12 student at Foundation, and I dressed up as Mary, Jesus’ mother from the Bible, for book week. Embarking on an imaginative journey with the children through each word or picture and bonding with them during play time was a lovely experience. It was inspiring to see the young generation connect with the inner child of my fellow year 12 students as they read Dr. Seuss together, played games and whipped up imaginary ‘sand’wiches dressed as pretty princesses. Celebrating God’s gift of books with the young students is one memorable page in this chapter of my life I’ll remember forever, so thank you Foundation Christian College!

Reading to the kindy students was a very delightful and heart-warming experience. Lots of smiles, laughter, and new friendships. It was rewarding getting to know each one of their unique personalities and being able to bridge the age gap through the genuine connections made. This will be a memory I will cherish as I graduate.

Shania

Thank you to all staff and students for getting creatively involved, we look forward to going even bigger next year!

Our Design and Tech Team outdid themselves on Friday 25 August when they presented our 2nd Design and Technology Night for Dads and Kids in readiness for Father’s Day!

The evening commenced with a sausage sizzle and campfire as well as games on the oval and when the sun set we all ventured in to the Multi-purpose Hall and enjoyed the activities!

Can you spare 1 hour per week to share the Good News in our Public School system?

Can you spare 1 hour per week to share the Good News in our Public School system?

Did you know that there are public schools in the region that would love to host Christian Education programs but need volunteers?

If you think you could spare an hour a week to share Jesus with other children, then consider:

Christian Values Education with YouthCARE

Christian Values Education (CVE) programs support kids as they explore values and beliefs from a faith perspective, through lessons involving Bible stories, games and activities. Both the lunchtime program (Treasure Hunters) and in-class program run for 30 minutes a week and volunteers are trained, equipped and supported by YouthCARE.

The programs present supporting and nurturing values in a fun way that inspires primary school students and helps them navigate their way through everyday challenges.

If you’d love to find out more about CVE and how you could be involved, follow your heart and head to www.youthcare.org.au/Christian-values-education or contact our district CVE Field Officer Wendy Jensen on 0418 478 214 Mondays to Thursdays.
