Let’s Meet a Chapter Member
Introducing …
Each eNews, we introduce you to one of our wonderful Chapter Members, through a question and answer type interview article.
This week, the Member in the hotseat is Georgia Maley, Communications & Marketing Coordinator at Scotch College Melbourne.
When and where did your career in education begin?
My career in education began in 2021 at Melbourne Girls Grammar School as Administration Officer for the Marketing and Community Engagement team. I studied design and advertising at university but had not yet stepped into a role to utilise these skills and was thinking about going back to university to get a Bachelor of Teaching. When I saw the position come up I thought it was the perfect role to work out which way I was leaning. In my two years at MGGS I had the opportunity to gain skills in a wide variety of areas and rekindled my love for creativity. This then led me into my current role as Communications and Marketing Coordinator at Scotch College.
What interests you most in terms of your role?
I love improving processes and ensuring creative aligns with design guidelines. Being a part of the creation and rollout of the new style guide has been such an exciting experience in which I have been able to apply my creative and problem-solving skills, whilst also building relationships across the school.
What do you find the most rewarding part of your job?
Creating great things that bring joy to the community. It’s always wonderful to see the huge projects come to life and the reaction from our stakeholders, whether it’s the excitement from students who featured in a social reel or the gratitude from parents for receiving clear and concise information.
Who is your biggest role model in terms of leadership?
My current manager Elizabeth Briggs. She is always calm and level-headed in a crisis and handles difficult situations with tact and grace. I very much admire her incredible communication skills and her ability to juggle so many projects at once. The way she supports us as a team and encourages us to grow and learn is inspiring.
What aspect of your role do you love the most?
This role has been a wonderful opportunity to learn so many things. I love that I have had the opportunity to be a part of a range of projects and develop my skills in so many different areas. I really enjoy the dynamic nature of the role, from organising photoshoots and working on the website to stepping into the classrooms to gather content for socials – no two days are the same.
What are you currently doing that would be of interest to other members in Educate Plus?
We are currently gearing up for our 175th year celebrations next year and brainstorming what kind of things we could do to make it feel special.
