Getting to Know You …

Getting to Know You …

Each eNews, we introduce you to one of our wonderful Chapter Members, through a Question & Answer type interview article.

Therefore, in the hotseat this edition, is: Candy Robertson, Project Manager – Communications, Ballarat Clarendon College.

When and where did your career in education begin? What was your previous role?
This is my first role in education and I have been at Clarendon for five months overseeing publications and social media. Before this role, I spent fifteen years in marketing and design for not-for-profits, corporate and retail sectors, as well as freelancing as a children’s book illustrator.

What interests you most in terms of your role?
I am particularly interested in working with the school community to create content. Social media for schools is an exciting area for me, as it’s less developed than in other industries like retail, offering lots of opportunities to explore new ideas.

What aspect of your role do you love the most?
I love the diversity of my role, working across all levels of the school, from Junior to Senior School and interacting with everyone from teachers to students. Every day is different!

What do you find the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is working with Senior School students. I enjoy encouraging their contributions, discovering what matters to them and learning about their hopes and dreams. Their energy is truly contagious.

What are you currently doing that would be of interest to other members in Educate Plus?
I recently finished the National Science Week campaign for our social media channels, ensuring it resonates with the school community while aligning with the theme. Currently, I am thinking of creative and engaging ways to present our Book Week content.

What Achievement / Accomplishment are you most proud of?
My children board book series, Roobee Roo won the Best Children’s Book Design Award for the book series category awarded by the Australia Book Design Association this year.

Three tips / words of advice for new members (perhaps as you are new to the education sector what have you found helpful?)
Don’t be afraid to try new ideas!

Describe yourself in three words…
Creative, curious and cheerful.

Thank you Candy Robertson! It’s been wonderful getting to know you!
