Let’s Meet a Chapter Member
Each eNews, we introduce you to one of our wonderful Chapter Members, through a Question & Answer type interview article.
Therefore, in the hotseat this edition, is Jenny Collins | Marketing and Brand Manager | Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar
1.When and where did your career in education begin? What was your previous role?
My interest in education started when I worked in an admin and marketing support role for The GrantEd Group, who support Australian researchers in tertiary education applying for research grants. The research coming out of universities is exceptional and as a fairly recent immigrant from South Africa it really inspired me to get involved in the education landscape of Australia and Victoria. I moved into a Communications and Content Coordinator role for Shelford Girls’ Grammar 18 months ago and feel privileged to have been involved in the final year of a wonderful school and documenting its great history for a number of legacy projects.
2.What interests you most in terms of your role?
I am looking forward to solidifying the already strong Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar brand and celebrating the School’s upcoming learning and wellbeing innovations, and looking ahead to celebrate its 125th year.
3.What aspect of your role do you love the most?
Being part of a passionate team who all believe in the power of single-sex education.
4.What do you find the most rewarding part of your job?
Being able to reflect the true nature of a school’s spirit insightfully and accurately to the wider community is rewarding – it is that authenticity that takes brand and marketing to the next level.
5.What are you currently doing that would be of interest to other members in Educate Plus?
I am knee deep in Presentation and Celebration Nights – I attended Shelford’s last ever one last night and am at Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar Celebration Night this evening. It’s great to get to the end of a busy year and celebrate our Students and their accomplishments – but ensuring a smooth event is all consuming.
6.What achievement or accomplishment are you most proud of?
Probably rebuilding my career after emigrating from South Africa. Change is always difficult but brings great opportunity too.
7.What are three tips or words of advice for new members?
- Tradition doesn’t have to trump innovation
- Be your authentic self
- Respect is so important – how you make somebody feel is a lasting impression
8.Describe yourself in three words:
- Insightful
- Funny
- Tired!
Thank you Jenny Collins! It has been wonderful getting to know you!
