Exploring the Safe and Effective Use of AI in Advancement 

In early June, the New Zealand Chapter hosted a fully booked professional development event, Safe and Effective Use of AI in Advancement, at Christ’s College in Christchurch. 

Presented by Ross Imbler and Clive Pedley from Giving Architects, the session brought together advancement, fundraising, marketing and admissions professionals from across Canterbury to explore the opportunities and practical applications of artificial intelligence within the sector. 

The programme covered a broad range of topics, including AI governance and privacy, prompt engineering, AI-powered research tools, benchmarking, and practical examples relevant to advancement professionals. 

Attendees responded enthusiastically, praising Ross and Clive’s expertise, passion and complementary presentation styles. Participants particularly valued the balance between strategic considerations, responsible governance and practical applications that could be taken back to their own organisations. 

The session also provided an important opportunity for attendees to share ideas and experiences with colleagues from across the sector. With AI continuing to develop at pace, participants were keen to explore the tools, techniques and use cases that could support their work. Many left the event with fresh ideas and greater confidence in using AI safely and effectively within their roles. 

The strong attendance and highly engaged discussion throughout the day reflected the growing interest in AI across the advancement profession.
