Combined Schools Book Club

We were certainly excited to welcome students from several schools in our Inner West region to Domremy College for a morning of celebration and everything books. The number of students attending proved that reading is still a popular and exhilarating activity amongst our young people, and that enjoyment of a good read and social interaction is both entertaining every bit as much as it is educational.

We welcomed students from St Patrick’s College, Strahfield, Trinity Grammar, and Christian Brothers Lewisham.

We heard from Paul McDonald, President of the CBCA (Childrens’ Book Council of Australia) and an inspiring advocate of all things Young Adult Fiction. His knowledge and ability to captivate a young audience is truly inspirational!

The Junior (Years 7-8) and Senior Club (Years 9-12) then divided into two groups where they forged friendships and talked about the latest Fantasy novels they had been reading. This was then followed by a provided morning tea.

Thank you to Jessica Lonard, Head of Library, from St Patrick’s as well who led the Senior group book discussions whilst I led the Junior students.

Here is a brief perspective on the events of the morning by Lara from Year 10;

This week, Domremy College was thrilled to host the first  7-10 Booknook club of 2025 where we came together to share our common interest and love for books. This event was a fun and memorable way to celebrate the power of books as well as form new friendships with students from other schools.
