Year 9 iSTEM’s tallest tower

Year 9 iSTEM’s tallest tower

The Year 9 iSTEM class has begun the year with a practical activity.  The class was divided into groups and, after some theory on the benefits of teamwork, were asked to complete a task.  Each group was given two sheets of newspaper and told to make a self-supported tower.  The winner would be the tallest tower.

The tallest tower was just under 1 metre tall.  A great achievement using only two sheets of newspaper and no glue.  After the event we discussed the problems encountered by each group and how they solved those problems.

Below is an image of Maeve, Sarah and Emily, the winning group with their tower.
