Pre-Schools’ News – Week 8
Our Pre-school children took part in Indigenous Literacy Day on Wednesday, organised by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. As part of our Reconciliation Action Plan, we aspire to connect authentically and to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and cultures within our curriculum. This week, the Indigenous Literacy Day, celebrated stories, cultures and languages.
A group of children from remote towns in Northern Territory (Milikapiti and Jilkminggan) shared their story about their life in remote Australia. This event took place at the Opera House and our Pre-school children were able to watch a live streaming of the event. In addition to this, children brought in a gold coin donation to go towards the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF). The ILF is a national charity working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote Communities across Australia. All donations to the Foundation will help put books in the hands of children in remote Indigenous communities.
