Curriculum
Eastwinds from Musica Viva comes to Cranbrook Junior School for K to 6 Music workshops
- Tuesday, 1st August (Week 3)
Prior to Eastwinds’ visit, in class, students will explore how we can create and connect to one another through improvisation based on our personal experiences. Eastwinds weaves a difficult to define spacious tapestry of sound that finds a bridge between east and west, folk and jazz, composition and improvisation. Most of all it’s a sound unique to this group. Eastwinds have been performing as an ensemble based in Fremantle, Western Australia, since 2014.
Opera Australia’s comes to perform El Kid at Cranbrook Junior School for K to 6
- Monday, 11th September (Week 9)
Opera Australia’s Schools Tour aims to capture some of the passion and feeling of largescale theatrical operas in a more informal and accessible way for children. All of the songs and instrumental music used in El Kid come from the well-known opera, Carmen, composed by Georges Bizet and first performed in 1875, while the story of El Kid is based on the Norwegian folktale, Three Billy Goats Gruff. Students will study the combined creative and dramatic elements of opera and engage with many musical excerpts, through singing, moving and playing, leading up to this performance.
