Students solved numerous addition and subtraction word problems that involved negative numbers. Students then used the solutions to crack a code. The answers to the problems were scattered around the classroom and each corresponded to a letter which spelt out the code: Neptune is -214 degrees celsius.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Students reflected on their learning:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>It was a really fun activity, we moved around the room to solve a code. The code was interesting too.<\/p><cite>Eloise<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>This task helped me with positive and negative integers, the scavenger hunt was a fun activity<\/p><cite>Lillian<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>This maths lesson was very engaging which made me think deeply about negative numbers. I enjoyed this task and it helped me understand more.<\/p><cite>Julie<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I think this was quite fun, I am improving my mental sums and accuracy.<\/p><cite>Cadence<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I really enjoyed this activity, it gave me a chance to practise adding and subtracting with negative numbers. The passcode (Neptune is 214 degrees celsius) was also an interesting fact.
