They will now begin preparing their Music of a Culture presentation<\/strong>, researching a culture of their choice and exploring how musical traditions express identity, storytelling and connection to place. Students will investigate instruments, musical elements, performance practices and cultural significance as they develop their presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Year 8 are finalising their Film Music compositions<\/strong>, adding foley effects and refining their leitmotifs to enhance character, mood and narrative. Their creativity and attention to detail have been wonderful to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As they complete their compositions, students will now begin preparing a presentation on a film genre of their choice<\/strong>. They will explore the effectiveness of the genre\u2019s musical features, discuss key characteristics, and share observations about how music shapes storytelling, atmosphere and audience response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their thoughtful analysis and imaginative musical ideas continue to shine each week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Students in our Elective Music classes enjoyed an engaging and memorable experience in their excursion to The Lion King <\/em>musical on 16 September that showcased the power of music in storytelling. For Year 9 students studying Theatre Music<\/strong>, the production provided an authentic example of how music, vocals, and orchestration work alongside action and dialogue to enhance character, mood, and dramatic impact. For Year 10 students studying Music for Multimedia<\/strong>, the performance highlighted how music supports visual elements, narrative, and audience engagement, demonstrating the important relationship between sound and on-stage production. Students were captivated by the outstanding performances, vibrant costumes, creative staging, and powerful live music, making the excursion both highly enjoyable and directly relevant to their current areas of study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Year 9 have now completed their aural exam<\/strong>, where they were examined on both Music for Theatre<\/em> and Music for Small Ensembles<\/em>. Students demonstrated strong listening skills, musical understanding and thoughtful engagement with the concepts studied this term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They have also completed their presentation on Music for Small Ensembles<\/strong>, exploring ensemble roles, communication, balance and the unique musical characteristics of chamber groups. Their maturity and insight were evident throughout their presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As they move forward, Year 9 will now begin turning their focus to their Performance Assessment Task<\/strong> happening next term, building confidence, musical independence and stage readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Year 10 are progressing beautifully with their Elective Project<\/strong>, working with independence, creativity and thoughtful musical inquiry. Students have selected a piece of their own choosing<\/strong>, which they are now analysing in depth \u2014 exploring its musical features, themes, structure and stylistic characteristics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n From this analysis, students will begin developing new musical ideas<\/strong> inspired by the original work, transforming and reimagining these themes through composition in a new chosen style<\/strong>. This encourages creativity, stylistic awareness and a deeper understanding of how musical ideas evolve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As part of the project, students will also compile a process video<\/strong> documenting their research, analysis, creative development and final composition. This multimedia submission will showcase their thinking, exploration and artistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to their project work, Year 10 will be performing in a class concert<\/strong>, giving them the opportunity to refine musical interpretation, tone, ensemble awareness and performance confidence in a supportive environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We look forward to seeing their final video submissions and hearing their performances next term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Year 11 IB students are in a focused and productive stage of their learning as they finalise their Exploring Music in Context (EMIC) Performance Adaptation<\/strong>. They are refining their musical ideas with care, ensuring that their adaptation clearly demonstrates stylistic understanding, thoughtful interpretation and a strong connection to their chosen context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Alongside this, students are tidying and strengthening their earlier portfolio submissions<\/strong>, reviewing their research, annotations and musical observations to ensure clarity, cohesion and academic rigour. This reflective process is an important part of IB Music, helping students deepen their understanding of how context shapes musical meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their curiosity, independence and commitment to high\u2011quality work continue to shine as they move toward the completion of their EMIC portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Year 11 HSC Music students have now completed their Preliminary written examinations<\/strong>, demonstrating thoughtful engagement with listening skills, score analysis and musical understanding across both courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Music 1<\/strong> students focused on listening skills and the Concepts of Music<\/strong>, showing growing confidence in identifying musical features, describing how they are used, and applying their knowledge to unfamiliar excerpts. Their developing aural awareness and ability to communicate musical ideas with clarity were evident throughout the exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Music 2<\/strong> students demonstrated strong analytical skills in their written paper, drawing on their understanding of repertoire from 1600\u20131900<\/strong>. They explored stylistic characteristics across the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods, discussing musical techniques, structural features and historical performance practices with increasing maturity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As they move forward, both courses are now preparing for their Performance Assessments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their commitment, curiosity and developing musical independence continue to shine as they enter this next stage of their learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Year 12 have had an exceptionally busy and rewarding few weeks, demonstrating maturity, resilience and artistry across all components of their HSC Music course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their final school recital<\/strong> was heartfelt and beautifully presented, showcasing not only their musical skill but also the deep connection they have formed with their repertoire and with one another. It was a moving celebration of their musical journey throughout their school years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Students have also completed their HSC external performance examinations<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Across all courses, students performed with confidence, musical insight and expressive communication. Their preparation, discipline and determination have been evident throughout the entire process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As we move into the final phase of the HSC<\/strong>, we are incredibly proud of their achievements and the way they have supported one another.
