Religion \u2013 Synoptic Gospel postcards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Throughout this unit, students in Year 6 have begun exploring the Synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, developing an understanding of how these texts portray Jesus and help encounter Him in life. Students compared key Gospel passages, including the Resurrection of Jesus, identifying similarities and differences between the accounts and analysing why each Gospel writer presents the events in a particular way. They also examined significant events such as the Baptism of Jesus, the Feeding of the Five Thousand and Jesus Blessing the Children, investigating what these stories reveal about Jesus\u2019 identity, mission, compassion and relationship with others. As part of their learning, students completed a creative postcard task based on Jesus Blesses the Children. They selected a Gospel account and wrote a postcard from the perspective of Jesus, a child present at the event or a disciple, demonstrating their understanding of the story and the way Jesus is portrayed. Students also created an accompanying illustration to bring their perspective to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A thought-provoking philosophy session with Dr Phillip Cam<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Year 6 core1 students recently had the opportunity to work with philosopher Dr Phillip Cam, engaging in a rich and reflective Philosophy lesson that stretched their thinking and sparked meaningful discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session centred on a compelling case study, which students unpacked using the Question Quadrant \u2013 a tool designed to help young thinkers distinguish between factual, conceptual, debatable, and ethical questions. This structure encouraged students to slow down, look closely at the scenario, and consider not just what happened<\/em>, but why it matters<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students explored what makes a question ethical, how different perspectives shape our understanding, and why some dilemmas don\u2019t have simple answers. They were eager to share ideas, challenge assumptions, and listen respectfully to one another. The room buzzed with curiosity as students realised that philosophy isn\u2019t about finding the ‘right’ answer \u2013 it\u2019s about asking better questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teachers also found the session incredibly valuable. Observing Dr Cam\u2019s facilitation offered fresh insight into how philosophical inquiry can be woven into everyday classroom practice. Many commented on how the Question Quadrant provided a clear, practical framework for guiding deeper conversations and helping students develop critical thinking skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of reflective thinking in education. Students left feeling inspired, and teachers walked away with new strategies to enrich learning across the curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
