{"id":18827,"date":"2025-10-23T17:43:37","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T06:43:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/ssc\/?post_type=article&#038;p=18827"},"modified":"2025-10-23T17:44:19","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T06:44:19","slug":"learning-in-the-library-16","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/ssc\/article\/learning-in-the-library-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning in the Library"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We love a scary story!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This week in their Wide Reading lessons, Year 5 Watkins challenged themselves to read scary stories.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together we read the picture book <strong>The ghost of Miss Annabel Spoon written and illustrated by Aaron Blabey. <\/strong>The story is told in rhythmical verse and tells us of Herbert Kettle and the ghost of Miss Annabel Spoon, who haunts the people of the village of Twee, until one day they have had enough.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students commented that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It was entertaining \u2013 Natalie<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I liked the rhyme and on the edge of my seat \u2013 Lydia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It&#8217;s a story of making friends and putting aside our differences. I did not expect that from the cover \u2013 Laura<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It teaches us to always be kind \u2013 Zara\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I liked how the boy wasn\u2019t scared and tried to make friends with her \u2013 Madelene<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Alexis commented that it reminded her to &#8216;Don\u2019t judge a book by its cover&#8217;. This reflection was particularly relevant, being applicable to both in our interactions with others and in our understanding of ourselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students then chose a scary story of their own, challenging themselves to read something they might not otherwise choose. Reflecting on their own scary story<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is keeping me on the edge of my seat, said Zara of her book <strong>The peculiar incident on shady street\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aria was finding <strong>Zombierella<\/strong> very interesting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And Alexis was \u2018scared since the first word\u2019 of <strong>The Clackity,<\/strong> but it was a \u2018good kind of scared!\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Lina enjoyed reading the horrifying <strong>Read at your own risk<\/strong> about a girl cursed by playing a game, so much she finished during the lesson.
