On Wednesday 22 May at 12:00 noon, Gioia House students, along with 2 241 490 people across 21 000 locations took part in National Simultaneous Storytime, listening to the picture book, Bowerbird Blues<\/em><\/strong> by Aura Parker. Every year a picture book, written by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, family homes, bookshops and many other places across the country.\u00a0This year\u2019s book, Bowerbird Blues<\/em><\/strong>, is a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird\u2019s search for blue things sends him spearing across the sea, sky and city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Simultaneous Storytime is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children\u2019s book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are some Year 5 reflections about the event:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I really enjoyed the storytime. It was very fun and calming. I also loved how it is based on a true story and it is such a lovely book about birds and nature. <\/em>

I love the story Bowerbird Blues because it was such a fun book but also it was interesting. It was such a calming and entertaining book for me.<\/em>
