Music in the Senior School (Curricular)

As the year draws to a close, we celebrate the achievements of our Music students from Years 7–12.

The Fra Angelico Festival was, as always, a resounding success in Music. Congratulations to all students who performed in ensembles for their dedication and commitment to their practice and refining of musical skills. A special mention goes to the Year 9 rock band Boulevarde ‘27, who impressed the audience with the debut of their first original song; a milestone achievement for these talented young musicians.

This term, Year 9 students had the opportunity to explore the IB Music program during D Cubed Day through interactive taster sessions led by Year 11 students. These sessions offered insights into the program’s Areas of Inquiry and demonstrated how diverse musical works align with these themes. This glimpse into the broad possibilities of IB Music inspired students to consider the richness and diversity the course offers.

Our Years 7 and 8 students have embraced creativity through engaging projects, such as writing rap songs inspired by Hamilton. They’ve also explored the fascinating world of music technology, learning about remixing, the mechanics of music streaming apps, and the evolution of ringtones; a fun way to understand how technology shapes our experience of music.

This has truly been a year filled with ‘musicking’; making, sharing, and experiencing music together. We are proud of the growth, creativity, and passion our students have demonstrated and look forward to another inspiring year ahead.
