After winning the North Queensland Regional Readers Cup, five of our Year 8 students, Isabelle Goodwin, Evie Clair, Sanuki Wijesekara, Liyana Joseph and Ruby Struss, travelled to Brisbane to represent St Patrick\u2019s College Townsville at the Queensland Readers Cup State Final held at Moreton Bay College.<\/p>\n

In the lead-up to the competition, the team read five set novels and prepared for an intensive quiz-style challenge. On the day, teams competed across five rounds of nine questions, testing their knowledge, recall and understanding of the books. The Year 7\/8 State Final featured 13 regional champion teams from all across Queensland, making for a highly competitive field.<\/p>\n

As part of the event, students also had the opportunity to hear from acclaimed authors Sue Whiting and Jason Gent, gaining valuable insights into the writing process and the world of literature.<\/p>\n

While our team did not come away with the overall title, they placed 6th in Queensland and represented the College with enthusiasm, teamwork and determination, certainly giving the other teams a run for their money. Reaching the State Final after winning the North Queensland regional competition was an outstanding achievement and a testament to the students\u2019 dedication to reading and literature.<\/p>\n
