Creating opportunities for students to share their ideas is an important part of building a culturally safe, welcoming and supportive boarding community. Student voice helps us strengthen routines, establish clear expectations and create a healthy balance between academic success, wellbeing and recreational opportunities.

Last term, we introduced our ‘Have Your Say’ box, giving boarders a simple way to contribute ideas, raise concerns or suggest improvements. Student suggestions are shared with the Boarding Student Representative Council, which includes two peer-elected representatives from each year level. The Council meets regularly alongside staff to discuss ideas and identify ways to enhance boarding life.

Council Members
Yr 7 – Emma Bindoraho, Justine Joseph-Chaham
Yr 8 – Yancy Billy, Annemarie Kuman
Yr 9 – Pipi Curan, Gina ‘Mae Morris
Yr 10 – Kertawai Gaidan, Mai Ly Nguyen-Wood
Yr 11 – Tessa Goodwin, Joanofarc Fernandes
Yr 12 – Taiijh Bowen, Tehlia-Joy Asa

Each evening, staff and students also gather for prayer and notices, providing another opportunity to celebrate successes, share ideas and encourage respectful conversations about matters that support students’ educational journey.

Our Boarding Student Representative Council meetings follow formal meeting procedures, including agendas, minutes and structured discussion, helping students develop valuable leadership and communication skills while ensuring every representative has the opportunity to contribute. Their feedback provides an important voice in decision-making and continues to shape a boarding community where every student feels heard, valued and empowered.

Paula Henderson

DEAN OF BOARDING

Student Voice Shaping Our Boarding Community At St Patrick’s College Townsville Boarding, we believe every student’s voice matters.
