Packed stadiums, record television broadcast numbers and widespread community support has exemplified the power of women\u2019s sport to capture the hearts and minds of the public.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4281 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2023\/07\/Triffett-Cameran-320x320.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2023\/07\/Triffett-Cameran-320x320.jpg 320w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2023\/07\/Triffett-Cameran-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Matildas are amazing role models for all. In particular, the way they conduct themselves on and off the pitch embodies the values of cooperation, integrity, compassion and tenacity, which are values we want our students to embody. As an all-girls\u2019 Mercy school, we are proud of the opportunities we provide to students and we are unapologetic in advocating for the societal shift towards recognition for women in all fields.<\/p>\n<p>The FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup has done much to highlight the true value of female athletes and the sports they play. However, the journey continues especially where prizemoney is concerned. When considering soccer, the prize money for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, came in at $440 million. In contrast, the prize money for the 2023 FIFA Women&#8217;s World Cup (even with the prize pool reaching a historic high) was $152 million. In the wake of the success of the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup, the Australian Government has pledged $200 million to improve women\u2019s sporting facilities and equipment. Let&#8217;s hope this investment marks the beginning of a more sustained substantial commitment to women&#8217;s sport.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is important that we as a society continue to advocate for equality for women and take every opportunity we have to demonstrate our support.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>New College Appointment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4347 size-thumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2023\/08\/July-2023-Headshots-12243-320x320.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2023\/08\/July-2023-Headshots-12243-320x320.jpg 320w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2023\/08\/July-2023-Headshots-12243-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I would like to introduce Prue Meier to the St Patrick\u2019s College Townsville Community. Prue commenced on Monday 7 August as the new Director\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">of Business Operations. She will oversee the strategic and intricate day-to-da<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">y business administration of the College, performing the functions of Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary to the Board. Prue holds a Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Commerce, Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance, and is a qualified Chartered Accountant. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">With a diverse background spanning the non-profit, mining and government sectors, she brings a wealth of experience to the role.
