Ben Williams\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n With the usual Interschool Cross Country competition unable to go ahead in its usual format, the Northern Region Cross Country trials took place this year in a virtual setting. Students were asked to record their time using a fitness tracking device or mobile phone and submit their result via a screenshot. Congratulations to Harper Weekers, Brooke Davis-Goodall, Sarah Bourke and Ella Bensch who participated in the event, completing running tracks around their home neighbourhoods.\u00a0All girls completed their run with outstanding times with Brooke also receiving first place for her age division.\u00a0<\/p>\n LEFT: Congratulations to Brooke Davis-Goodall who took out first place in her age division for the Northern Region Virtual Cross Country.\u00a0<\/p>\n Our Year 9 Fitness students have been learning everything from controlled breathing, to blocking and strength positions as part of their unit exploring self defense through martial arts this term.\u00a0 Master John VonHoff<\/span> o<\/span>f the Academy of Choi Kwang Do, has been running workshop from our College campus featuring demonstrations and practical lessons. Year 9 student Emma Watts, who has been studying Choi Kwang Do as an extracurricular activity with Master VonHoff for more than four years and holds a Black-Belt, also assisted with some of the demonstrations. S<\/span>haring her skills with her classmates, Emma said she loved Choi Kwang Do because it was a great way to make friends and build her confidence.<\/span><\/p>\n Due to some of the restrictions this term, we shifted our programming for Year 7 to Athletics. The girls have been learning running techniques and practicing fitness and relay events over the last few weeks. A particular highlight was the Year 7 Athletics Challenge – an activity circuit which involved a mix of athletics and fitness stations including the Illinois agility run, standing long jump, speed jump, vertical jump, 10m sprints, javelin throw and bean bag toss (shot put station). Students competed in teams of three, earning points across all seven stations. The girls were very encouraging of one another and all worked well in their teems to cheer each other along.
