From the College Principal

As we say goodbye to another joyful year at the College, we reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared throughout 2023. At the heart of our vibrant community, we’ve witnessed achievements and growth that truly define St Patrick’s College Townsville.

STEM Learning Hub Official Opening

I’m delighted to share the wonderful news that on Friday 24 November, our College commemorated the official opening and blessing of the new STEM Learning Hub. This milestone was made special by the presence of the Honourable Scott Stewart MP, Bishop Timothy Harris, and many members of the Townsville and College community. The evening was filled with immense joy as we marked a significant step forward in our College Master Plan and Strategic Direction. The Hub stands as proof to our commitment to innovation and education. We look forward to embracing this new and the opportunities it offers for our collective growth and learning.

We are very grateful to the Queensland State Government for partly funding this incredible facility, which will enable our expert teaching team to inspire students through the delivery of engaging academic programs. Equipped with state-of-the-art Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Technology, and Marine Science laboratories (fitted with purpose-built aquatic tanks), the STEM Learning Hub is set to redefine learning experiences and provide many years of educational value to current and future students.

Staffing Update

This time of year we begin to plan for 2024 and this involves working out our workforce. It’s with immense pleasure that I announce Ms Camille Flores as our new Dean of Pathways, stepping into a role vital to shaping our students’ future journeys. Simultaneously, we congratulate Ms Elissa Gileppa who has been appointed Head of Department – Hospitality and Functions, bringing her expertise and passion to guide our students in this role.

I am also thrilled to announce a few Acting Head of House roles for 2024! Mr McKye Turner will be our Acting Head of House – Principalities, Ms Lara Hansen as Acting Head of House – Dominations, and Ms Jessica John as Acting Head of House – Powers. Additionally, it brings me great joy to share that Ms Harriet Vesukio will be returning as College Chaplain in 2024, continuing to impart her knowledge and passion on our community

While embracing new beginnings, we do say farewell to a few staff with new opportunities whose contributions to the College have been invaluable. Ms Sue Rheinberger will begin her well-deserved retirement at the end of 2023, marking an extraordinary 42 years of teaching, with the last 31 years dedicated to St Pat’s. Ms Mia Doyle, Ms Vicki Moloney, and Ms Claire Verapen will all be leaving Townsville and thus leaving the College at the conclusion of Term 4.  We also say goodbye to Mr Mark Clancy and Ms Sharon Moore and wish them all the best!

As we conclude this joyous year, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated staff, enthusiastic students, and supportive College community. I wish everyone a safe, restful, and rejuvenating holiday break. May it be filled with joy and cherished moments with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the College for Term One on Wednesday 24 January, 2024.

“May you be blessed
With the spirit of the season, which is peace,
The gladness of the season, which is hope,
And the heart of the season, which is love.”

Amen
