2025 BEGINNING OF TERM 4 - 17 October 2025
FROM THE COLLEGE PRINCIPAL

FROM THE COLLEGE PRINCIPAL

Welcome back to all members of our community after what I hope was a thoroughly restorative end of Term 3 break. I was particularly happy to connect with our returning students and staff from their World Challenge Tour in Vietnam, which coincided with a super typhoon event. I am particularly grateful to our staff (Ms Maguire and Ms Flores) and to the World Challenge staff who ensured students remained safe, whilst also experiencing a wonderful immersion opportunity. Events such as these build wonderful opportunities for students to build resilience, develop more worldly perspectives and disconnect from 21st century comforts that we sometimes take for granted.

I wish to also express my congratulations to our Rowers who participated in the State Rowing Championships in Brisbane, coming fourth overall. Particular congratulations goes to:

  • Year 11 Quad consisting of (Holly Wilkie, Georgia Cresswell, Leila Strickland, Matilda Schroder, Elyse Adebahr (cox)) who won Gold
  • Year 8 Double (consisting of Lillian Ponti and Chelsea Skinner) who won Silver;
  • Year 8 Single (consisting of Chelsea Skinner) who won Silver
  • Schoolgirls Double (consisting of Georgia Cresswell and Iluka Hamann) who won Bronze.
  • Year 11 Double (consisting of Georgia Cresswell and Holly Wilkie) who won Bronze.

May I also congratulate the Interregional U13 Quad representing the Northern Region, which consisted of 3 St Patrick’s College Townsville girls (Georgia Cresswell, Holly Wilkie and Elyse Adebahr) who won Silver.

My thanks and congratulations to our remarkable rowing coach, Mr Harrison Parks, who has worked with such dedication and passion, to bring out the best from our girls. I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing about their extraordinary season working in close proximity with Ms Susan Wilkinson, and celebrating their achievements with them at the recent Rowing Awards Dinner.

I would also like to congratulate our Touch Football students who participated in the All Schools Touch Football Tournament at the Gold Coast last week, amongst 600+ teams from across the country. The girls performed well and are to be congratulated both for their efforts and their patience, having been delayed in their return and needing to stay in Brisbane for an additional night. My thanks to Ms Shanelle Rubio and Ms Dana Leviston for their support of our girls throughout this competition and in trying circumstances.

In further fabulous news, the College has been advised by the hosts of the Creative Generations Awards that Year 12 student, Hope Tyrie, is the recipient of the Excellence Award for our region and her work will be exhibited at QAGOMA in 2026. Additionally, four of our students, Hope Tyrie, Bella Mason, Mya Cole-Otto and Tara Marlborough will have their works on display at the regional exhibition from Saturday 18 October, at the Townsville Heritage Centre. I would encourage as many as possible to get along to the exhibition to see their fabulous works.

Staffing

At the start of Term 4, the process of 2026 timetable resolution and resource planning is well and truly under way.

I wish to advise the College community that Mr Cameran Triffett has resigned from the position of Deputy Principal at St Patrick’s College Townsville, to continue his study program in the US. As Deputy, and on occasions, as Acting Principal, Cameran has played a leading role in the development of St Patrick’s College Townsville over nearly a decade. He has been instrumental in the strategic leadership of the College over that period, leading ranging school improvements, and refining College processes in light of significant increases in enrolments. Aside from the breadth of his impact, he is admired by all for how he has engaged with all members of the College community, bringing a unique blend of wisdom, integrity, honesty and humour in all that he does. While I have only been at the College a very short time, I cannot sufficiently express my gratitude to Cameran for all that he did to support my onboarding and for all that he has done in service of the College. I am sure the community will join with me in wishing Cameran all the very best in his current undertakings.

I also advise that Ms Elissa Gileppa has resigned from the College with the view to relocate to New South Wales. Elissa started at the College five years ago and has had a number of roles primarily in the Hospitality department. Most recently, she has performed the role of Head of Department – Hospitality & Functions, overseeing the implementation of the national curriculum and changes in the Senior curriculum. I take this opportunity to thank Elissa for all that she has done in the service of the College. Her generosity of service at all Hospitality events and her steadfast support of ranging students, will be greatly missed.

In further staff news, Ms Kirsten Walsh will be on leave for the remainder of this year and next. I look forward on welcoming back Kirsten to the College in 2027 and thank her for all she has done in her passionate support of our Art students.

We will have further opportunity to farewell departing staff members at the end of the year. Recruitment processes for these positions, and other positions are under way. There will be further updates in later newsletters, once appointments have been resolved.

FROM THE ACTING DEPUTY PRINCIPAL – ACADEMIC

Welcome back to Term 4. It is always a fast-paced term and a time for much celebration. To prepare as best as possible, it is important that students are organised and ready for upcoming assessment. The College Assessment Calendar and Exam Block Calendar is a useful starting point for planning the remaining weeks of term. It is important to note that there is an exam block for all remaining year levels (Year 7-11). This will be emailed to students and parents by the end of Week 2.

AWARDS EVENING ACADEMIC AWARDS

Following our College Assembly on Wednesday 8 October, students receiving Academic Awards at the upcoming Awards Evenings will be emailed details of their award and the associated practice for the evening. These awards recognise the academic achievements of our students including First, Second and Third in Year awards, as well as Subject Awards for students in Years 11 and 12.

Parents/guardians of award recipients were emailed details of the specific award their student is receiving, as well as details of the evening. If you believe there is an error in the data calculations or haven’t received an email for award recipients, please contact the Studies Office. Congratulations to our students on their achievements. I look forward to formalising this at the 2025 Awards Evening.

YEAR 12

Year 12 students are in their final weeks of regular classes before entering Workshop Week (Week 3) and External Examinations (Week 4). Details regarding Workshop Week were emailed to parents/guardians and students, and can be found on the Learning Hub. The final version of the External Exam Timetable including specific rooming is also available on the Learning Hub, as well as Directions for Students and Equipment List. Students and Parents are strongly encouraged to familiarise themselves with the Illness and misadventure section of the QCE & QCIA handbook, in particular section 6.5.2 that addresses Illness and misadventure for external exams.

We wish our Year 12 students the best of luck in their final pieces of assessment and their external exams.

From tackling demanding coursework to embracing leadership opportunities and extracurricular challenges, they have truly made the most of their time at school. This term marks a time of reflection on achievements and preparation for the future, as students focus on final exams and life beyond Year 12. This valuable educational activity not only enhances their understanding of the working world but also helps them develop essential skills for their future careers. OUR RED DOOR

OUR RED DOOR

A small change with a big meaning. Our new red door at the Boarding House is a symbol of welcome and compassion, inspired by Catherine McAuley’s original House of Mercy on Baggot Street.

At a time when opening doors to the poor and vulnerable in an affluent neighbourhood was considered bold and unsettling, Catherine’s open door was a quiet act of defiance and radical hospitality. From this courageous beginning grew a ministry of care and service that has touched hearts and communities across generations.

Our red door stands as a reminder of this legacy. May all who pass through feel the warmth of that enduring mission of Mercy.
YEAR 7 EXPERIENCE DAY

YEAR 7 EXPERIENCE DAY

Today we warmly welcomed our incoming Year 7 Class of 2026, giving them a glimpse into high school life! After a morning of introductions, students explored Visual Arts, Drama, Science, and Hospitality, and enjoyed a BBQ lunch with their new big sisters on The Strand. It was a day filled with excitement, nerves, and joy, and we can’t wait to see everyone back at St Pat’s next year. We saw lots of happy faces and new friendships already blossoming.

A huge thank you to Joanna Pacey, Tenille Hambly, Meg Henderson, our Heads of House, and all the dedicated teachers who made this day so special for our future students.
SURF LIFE SAVING

SURF LIFE SAVING

Some of our boarding students had a fantastic time at the Forrest Beach Surf Lifesaving Carnival on Saturday 11 October! Teaming up with the Arcadian Surf Life Saving Club, they showed their skills and team spirit in beach sprints, flags, and beach relays. It was a great opportunity for our students to challenge themselves, connect with the local community, and enjoy a fun day in the sun. Congratulations to all participants for representing the College with such enthusiasm and energy!

GOLD COAST ALL SCHOOLS TOUCH

After months of dedication and training, the team took to the fields with determination and pride, showcasing their skills and teamwork on this incredible stage. The girls finished their campaign on a high, wrapping up the tournament with a fantastic win against All Saints Anglican School.

Congratulations to our MVPs:
Game 1: Sarah Andrews
Game 2: Dakota Geatches
Game 3: Gabriella Parenti
Game 4: Sophia Webb
Game 5: Kate Andrews
Game 6: Grace Montgomerie

A massive thank you to our amazing coaches, Shanelle Rubio and Dana Leviston, for their expert guidance and organisation, and to our wonderful sponsors – Mater Private Hospital Townsville, Watlec Electrical Services, Pickerings Auto Group, Credit Choice Finance Townsville, and Marc Leviston Roofing – for making this journey possible.
