Message From the Principal

Term 4 has commenced with the announcement of our College Captains and Prefects for 2020.  Applying for a student leadership role is a rigorous process, students must address the College community, put themselves forward so that voting can occur to ascertain the level of support they have amongst peers and teachers and they must also participate in an interview with me for the more senior roles.  By the time the process has taken place, the girls have had a lot of time to think about the impact they would like to make should they be given the opportunity to influence through a leadership role.  They must also demonstrate a deep love for their school and a willingness to be courageous and compassionate and act with integrity.  When I met with the group following their appointments we talked about life in a fishbowl and how they will be judged to a higher set of standards; that their behaviour must be beyond reproach.  I have faith that the girls chosen for these roles will take their responsibilities seriously and that they will grow through the experience, which won’t always be easy.  With support from their families and the whole school community, I am certain they will strive to do their best. We pray that they will lead the College with grace.  Congratulations to:

College Captains: Kalani Guillien & Barbara Sigere

Faith & Identity Prefect: Ali Thomas

Community Service Prefects: Erin Chin & Tamarra Woods

Boarder Prefects: Anastacia Barton & Thalia Salika

Cultural Engagement Prefect: Javanah Bero

Arts Prefect: Jorja Warde

Sport Prefect: Claudia Krause

DOMS House Captains: Abigail Horspool & Zeiann Baragud

POWERS House Captains: Eliza Millard & Lucia Rentoule-Gallagher

PRINCES House Captains: Norma Owens & Sarah Bradley

THRONES House Captains: Emily Shaw & Jacinta Downward

Thank you to families who joined us last week for the Sportswomen’s Awards Evening.  Our guest speaker Bo Del La Cruz was inspirational and it was great to see our girls completely engaged with what she had to say. Her main messages were to be confident and proud, that a sense of achievement in life is a powerful feeling and that talent only gets you so far, the rest is sheer, hard work. Our very best wishes to the following girls who were the major sport award winners:

  • Junior All Rounder – Amali Clark
  • Senior All Rounder – Kayla Bowen
  • Rae Cole Award for Junior Sports Woman – Sarah Bourke and Brooke Davis-Goodall
  • Pavia Family Award for Senior Sports Woman – Claudia Krause
  • Olympic Change Maker – Barbara Sigere

Much thanks to Mrs Tenille Hambly, Head of HPE & Sport for organising a wonderful Awards Evening and also for coordinating the many sporting opportunities open to our girls.  We are also very fortunate at our school to have so many of our teachers who volunteer to manage and coach the rich and diverse sports opportunities on offer.

Today we celebrate World Teachers Day. Our teachers are the most dedicated staff, they go above and beyond and see their work as a vocation.  It has been such a joy to work with educators who put their students first, who are committed to ongoing learning, and who understand the impact they have on nurturing our girls to do more and be more than they ever thought possible.

Finally, I hope you will join us for our Annual Speech Night next Wednesday 30 October at the Civic Theatre. The evening is a powerful celebration of student learning and achievement as we reflect on the events, people and programs that makes this College a leader in an education designed specifically for girls.
