Over the past few weeks a number of St Patrick’s girls have been very busy competing across a number of sporting domains.

Summer Donnelly represented North Queensland in the 16-18 years’ girls Touch Football team at the state championships in Brisbane and also represented Townsville in the Queensland Junior Cup in Hervey Bay over the holidays. Furthermore, Summer has also been chosen to represent Townsville in the Qld Junior Cup in August as part of the U16 girls Cyclones team. We wish her all the best for this upcoming event.

In Rugby League news, Phillimona Isua, Kenya Mari, Alison Wosomo and Lorianna Eseli had success recently at the North Queensland U12 Rugby League trials. These young ladies all put on a stunning performance and have been successfully chosen to compete at the upcoming State Championships in Brisbane in September. Good luck to these young Rugby League enthusiasts.

Congratulations also to Ethel Babia who attended the U15 Rugby League Championships in Brisbane as part of the North Queensland team last week. Ethel’s team played extremely well and made it through to the semi-finals. Ethel had a fantastic experience which has only strengthened her commitment to the game.

Eliza Millard took on the Townsville to Cairns Charity Bike Ride (25th-27th July) which raised almost $300,00 and awareness for the Children’s Cancer Institute. She rode with the Ignatius Park College team, the ‘Galahs’. The event started at the Mercure Inn in Townsville on the Thursday and finished at the Cairns Show Grounds on Saturday. Eliza rode a total of 360km. Congratulations Eliza.

“Townsville to Cairns Bike ride was a great experience. Although the ride was physically and at times mentally challenging, I found it was very rewarding. The Iggy boys and teachers were very encouraging and made me feel a part of the team. Next year I want to get more girls to take part in the ride, not only because it’s a lot of fun but also because it raises money and awareness for Children’s cancer.” Eliza Millard
