2019 Sportswomen’s Awards

Last Tuesday St Patrick’s College hosted its annual Sports Awards Evening. The ceremony provided an opportunity to celebrate the success of the many talented students we have here at the College. The evening was made even more exciting with the presence of our guest speaker, hugely successful sportswomen Bo De la Cruz. Her presence and inspirational words really engaged our young women and gave them motivation to continue pursuing their sporting goals. Congratulations to all of the students who received awards, especially to the following ladies for being awarded the major prizes:

  • Junior All Rounder – Amali Clark
  • Senior All Rounder – Kayla Bowen
  • Rae Cole Memorial Junior Sportswomen – Sarah Bourke and Brooke Davis-Goodall
  • Pavia Senior Sportswomen – Claudia Krause
  • Olympic Change Maker – Barbara Sigere

Last weekend Kayla Collins, Yalul Toby, Kanako Weightman and Peta Dickinson all participated in the Queensland Athletics Championships in Cairns. Congratulations to all of these young ladies for their brilliant performances that earnt them a place on the North Queensland team and for their efforts at these titles. A special mention to Kanako Weightman for placing third in her 100m, 200m and long jump events, and Kaylah Collins for placing 2nd in both her 100 and 200m events.

HPE and Fitness

Our students are busy again this term engaging in many different sports and physical activities. Students are fortunate enough to be participating in an array of activities ranging from Lawn Bowls to Gymnastics, to AFL, Yoga, Bush Dance and Volleyball. Providing students with these opportunities creates an excitement for physical activity and opens windows to new and engaging experiences.

Year 8 HPE Mental Health Kits

Year 8 HPE students have been working very hard over the last school term to develop their understanding on the very important topic of ‘Mental Health’. As part of their assessment, students were required to research many different aspects of Mental Health and use their findings to create ‘Mental Health Bags’. These bags contained helpful tips and information to support and encourage healthy minds in teenagers. All of the Year 8 students came together this week at lunch time to gift these bags to their peers. Well done to all the Year 8 students for their hard work, together they made over 350 bags!
