August 19 saw almost 80 St Patrick’s students attend the B schools Interschool Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to all the talented students who made up our College team and gave it their all at this event. We are excited to announce that St Patrick’s College has won the B Schools Competition.

Since this carnival the Northern Region Trials have taken place. Congratulations to Yalul Toby, Javanah Bero, Peta Dickinson, Kaylah Collins and Kanako Weightman for their outstanding performances at these trials earning themselves a place on the Northern team to compete at the Queensland Championships in Cairns next month. We wish these ladies all the best. Next term we are looking forward to hosting our annual Sports Awards Evening to celebrate the success of all our talented St Patrick’s College athletes.

2019 Sports Women’s Awards 

Letters have been sent home to all students who will be receiving awards for the 2019 Sportswomen’s Awards.Please be sure to RSVP to this invitation only event by Monday 7 October to sport@stpatscollege.qld.edu.au.

We are hugely excited to announce that champion Touch, Rugby Union and League player, Bo de la Cruz, will be this year’s guest speaker at the 2019 Sportswomen’s Awards to be held next term.

After launching her football career at the age of just 12, Bo has forged a reputation as a sporting powerhouse. Among her many achievements, Bo was a member of the Australian team that won the 2003 & 2007 Touch Football World Cup and was voted Overall Female Player of the Series and Most Valuable Player for Australia in 2003.

More recently, Bo was named as a member of the Touch Football Australia Golden Jubilee team which recognise the top 14 female players to ever play the sport of Touch Football in the existence of the sport.

Bo also recently captained the Australian Women’s over 35’s team to an undefeated World Cup win in Malaysia in May, which was her final Australian representative honour. We are excited to welcome her to the College next term 

Sportswomen’s Awards will be held Tuesday 15 October from 6 pm in the College Sports Complex. A light supper and refreshments will be provided. Students are reminded to wear their full academic uniform. Please contact the College if you require any further information.

 

Netball News

This was St Patrick’s College first year as as an official Netball Club. Our youngest team  ‘SPC Juniors’ finished in the top 4 this season, and played their semi final game against Grammar 12. Our girls were victorious with a final score of 17-13 and progressed  through to the grand final. It was an intense game, however our girls came out on top, winning their grand final 20-19 after extra time! Congratulations ladies.

Townsville Yacht Club’s 3rd Gals Regatta

Over the weekend Year 11 student Kayla Boothby (pictured far right) took part in the Townsville Yacht Club’s 3rd Gals Regatta. Kayla, who was the youngest crew member at the Regatta, crewed on “Akarana” and finished 8th Overall. 

 

QLD State Schools Rowing Championships

We would like to wish our Rowing teams the best of luck for the QLD State Schools Rowing Championships at Wyaralong Dam. The competition runs over the 21-23 September, with the girls returning on Tuesday 24 September.

 

Wests Hockey Club 

Congratulations to Year 11 student Jorja Neilsen who received the 2019 Most Promising Junior, selected from all players in the West Hockey Club.
