Interhouse Athletics

On Friday 9 August, our girls made their way to the Townsville Sports Reserve for our annual Interhouse Athletics Carnival. A rotational roster of age-group events around the track allowed for maximum participation and enabled the girls to show some real house spirit as they took part in both competitive and participation events.

Our prestigious ‘Queen of the Track’ race involving the eight fastest 100m runners from the day was taken out for a second year in a row by talented athlete Peta Dickinson who convincingly won the race.

As the day came to a finish, the house spirit continued as all age champions were announced. Congratulations to the following age champions:

  • U12 – Lorianna Eseli
  • U13 – Sarah Bourke
  • U14 – Charlize Barrett
  • U15 – Peta Dickinson
  • U16 –Maleta Warrior
  • Open – Barbara Sigere

Congratulations also to Ms Towers and the almighty Doms House for not only taking out the House Trophy, but also for taking away the Spirit Award.

Interschool Athletics

Congratulations to the many students who recently attended the Interschool Athletics Carnival as part of the St Patrick’s College Athletics Team. A pre-carnival breakfast was held each morning to ensure our athletes were fueled and fully energized. These girls did the College proud participating in every event across the two-day carnival. Their effort, team spirit and commitment are to be commended. They should all be very proud of themselves for the results that they were awarded. Final points have not yet been released however an update will be provided as soon as this information is made available.

Rowing – NQ Schools Championship Regatta

Huge congratulations to our first ever team to make it to the finals in the NQ Schools Championship Regatta: Year 8 Quads Rowing Team Lily Bragg, Montanna Jones, Emily Black, Sarah Bourke & Olive Dury. Montanna Jones & Lily Bragg won their heat and semi-final as first time Doubles partners. Sarah Bourke and Emily Black took out silver in the Year 8 Double, while Sarah Bourke had a fantastic race in her Year 8 Singles heat. Congratulations to the whole team.

Challenge Games

Last week 15 girls from St Patrick’s College attended the Challenge Games. This two-day event is held annually and includes a range of sporting activities, athletics and games for children who have a disability regardless of their disability type; physical, autism, hearing, intellectual, vision or any other. It is an event where students can have fun and compete with other children of their own ability level – without feeling ‘different’.

Students participated eagerly in all the events. It was wonderful to see our senior students supporting the younger students by encouraging them to make new friends and barrack for their friends. The students enjoyed learning about a variety of sports and this provided an awareness of the leisure activities in the community, something that would benefit them in post school years.

Kanako Weigthman & Kaylah Collins also competed in the Gail Brodie Para-Athletics Trial designed for athletes who wish to compete at the Queensland Schools State Championships in October.

Townsville Running Festival

On Sunday 4 August, Mrs Hambly, Ms Hauff, Mr Pacey, Ms Stewart, Ms Martens and Ms Qualischefski joined a number of St Patrick’s College students for the Townsville Running Festival. As a team everyone took part in the ‘Junior 5km Fun Run’. It was a beautiful morning for a run and the atmosphere of this great event created a real buzz among the group.
