The theme for Catholic Education Week in Queensland in 2019 is: Many Voices. One Spirit.

This theme has been chosen for its promotion and support of inclusiveness. The ‘Many Voices’ represent those of students, teachers, families, communities, parish, social services and government within all five dioceses in Queensland and include students of all educational ages (kindergarten to university) and beliefs.

‘One Spirit’ will be interpreted differently by different audiences and could include for example: faith, the Holy Spirit, charisms, or school spirit, team spirit, parish spirit, family spirit.

This week we marked the start of Catholic Education Week by celebrating the Eucharist with other diocesan schools at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Following mass, we acknowledged the recipients of the Deus Caritas Est Award for outstanding Year 12 students who exemplify our Christian values in their school communities. This year the St Patrick’s College recipient was Anna Shaju Chirackal. Anna’s contribution to community service projects, school and parish life demonstrates her commitment to Jesus, as someone who by words and actions shows a love for God, Others and Self.

This week we also acknowledged Ms Anderson as the recipient of a Spirit of Catholic Education Award. This award recognises those who are making an outstanding contribution within the Catholic education community.

The Mercy Girls In Action have led daily Catholic Education Week lunch time activities including a student-led Yarning Circle, rosary bracelet making in the courtyard, an affirmation wall in the College Library, fashion sorting for Birthing Kit fundraisers and yoga and meditation.

May your Holy Spirit unite us in faith, hope and love during Catholic Education week and promote and uphold the distinctive mission of Catholic schooling.
